PUISSANT took a step forward on his Newbury debut when runner-up at Newcastle last time and can get his head in front if continuing to improve here. Tawaasheeh performed well on his first outing at Newmarket, splitting a pair of subsequently placed runners, and the Derby entrant may improve for the application of a first-time hood. Subcontinent ran well on his second visit to the racecourse when runner-up at Salisbury and can get on the premises again.

Watch out for: Tawaasheeh (12)

Tawaasheeh's debut effort in a warm-looking Newmarket maiden last month was highly encouraging and, with the prospect of better to come, he should prove hard to beat. Puissant and Subcontinent rate the main dangers, though Drumkilbo isn't without hope, Mystic Miraaj will be more street-wise following his promising debut and newcomer New Strategy is one to note in the betting.

ESSAKA got his head back in front when dropped to selling company at Nottingham and may do better back up in trip with his confidence buoyed. The top-rated Ventura Shadow hasn't been able to build on a nursery success at York earlier in the season but cannot be discounted now dropping into this class. Summer Stroll meets that rival on worse terms than he would in a handicap but sports a new set of cheekpieces and may improve for that new tack, likewise Ty Ty who outperformed his price at Thirsk and is only having his third start under Rules.

PROPERUS trailed a future winner when finishing a two-length fourth at Ayr and possibly didn't quite see out the seven-furlong trip on that occasion. The drop to 6f may be more suitable for him at this stage and he gets the nod. Makin Trouble is an interesting 60,000 euro newcomer whose dam is a half-sister to 2000 Guineas winner Cockney Rebel. He deserves closer market inspection, likewise George Bailey, who took a step forward when runner-up at Beverley and should improve for the extra furlong he encounters here.

SCRAFTON was a short-head away from landing a hat-trick at Ayr and a meagre 1lb rise from the handicapper looks to give him a strong chance on just his seventh outing. Crakehall Lad trailed that rival in fifth in Scotland but was a winner when last sighted over this C&D and may get closer this time. That victory came at the expense of Madrasa, who bids for a fourth success over track and trip, and may have more to offer in a new combination of a hood and tongue-tie. Choisan completes the shortlist after a near-miss at Ayr.

Scrafton was just denied in his hat-trick bid at Ayr last time and is taken to resume winning ways. James Bethell's representative has been raised just 1 lb for that near miss and is open to further progress given his low mileage. STRIKE A LIGHT failed to complete her hat-trick when only fifth and a beaten favourite at Lingfield in August, but she wasn't disgraced, finishing within three lengths of the winner, and the step back up to 7f and return to a sounder surface could bring about a return to winning ways. Lilac Lace is a six-time career winner and is attractively treated off 69 based on her best form, while Manatee Bay is 2lb well in at the weights and he's expected to go close too.

FUNDING DEFICIT may not have to improve a great deal on his latest second-placed effort at Newcastle to land the spoils. Jim Goldie's charge stayed on gamely having been headed inside the final furlong last time out and is worth another chance off the same mark while he's evidently on good terms with himself. Polar Forest knows how to win races and a positive ride looks assured over a trip that will be sharp enough, while Red Inca is another to take seriously.

The beautifully-bred Shamardal gelding, out of a winning dam in Cherry Orchard, represents the in-form Godolphin operation and punters are forced to sit up and take note when Saeed bin Suroor sends a maiden to the North Yorkshire track. Advance has finished second at Lingfield and Newcastle so warrants plenty of respect, but the 65-rated and more experienced Asha is feared most.
