Alan King had a memorable 2021/22 Jumps season when he crashed through the £1million barrier for the first time since 2018/19 with £1,329,631 in prize money and his 63 winners were laced with significant prestigious successes.
Kingpin in the Barbury Castle Stable team was Edwardstone whose victories included the Grade 1 Henry VII Novices’ Chase at Sandown in December, the Grade 2 Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase at Kempton later that month and to cap it all the Grade 1 Arkle Challenge Trophy at Cheltenham in March.
The evergreen Sceau Royal chipped in with victories in a Listed Hurdle at Kempton in October and Grade 2 Elite Hurdle at Wincanton in November and that pair will once again be plying their trade in the coming months.
The Glancing Queen was another success story for King in with her listed Mares’ Novices’ Chase wins at Bangor in November in Warwick in December and there were plenty of others in Alan’s team who helped him hit the headlines.
King has plenty of new stock from the English and Irish point-to-point fields to supplement his established and emerging performers and kindly talked to Tony Elves of the attheraces.com about his prospects for what could well be another major money-spinning season.
