It was a resumption of normal high standards for Alan King and his Barbary Castle team in the 2018/2019 season with his 91 winners netting £1,259,316 in prize money.
The season ended on a high note when Talkischeap landed the bet365 Gold Cup on the final day of the season at Sandown and there had been earlier notable successes with The Glancing Queen taking the Grade 2 mares’ bumper at Aintree and Sceau Royal showing he was better than ever when landing the Grade 2 Shloer Chase at Cheltenham on his reappearance.
That trio will once again be in action and Scarlet Dragon has already set out stall for what the trainer hopes will be another stellar season with victory in a listed handicap hurdle at Market Rasen at the end of September.
With a perfect mix of experienced handicap chasers, progressive handicap hurdlers, new recruits to novice chasing, bumper winners going novice hurdling and his usual productive team of juvenile hurdlers it will hopefully be repeat business for King this season.
Alan kindly spoke to Tony Elves of attheraces.com about some of his main hopes for a busy period ahead.
