DOCTOR STEINBERG won a Ballinrobe bumper in good style last May and is unbeaten in both starts over the smaller obstacles. The son of Doctor Dino beat Frankie John at Galway and handled testing ground well when keeping on strongly to land a 2m4f Grade 2 at Navan next time. That form was given a timely boost by Thedeviluno last weekend and he could prove hard to beat. Gordon Elliott is four-handed with Santo Sospir bidding for a hat-trick following a decisive win on heavy ground at Clonmel, while Jack Kennedy's mount Kazansky has proven stamina after landing a Grade 2 at Limerick.
The form of DOCTOR STEINBERG's Grade 2 win took a big boost in the River Don last week suggesting that he should be able to take this step up in class in his stride. That effort sets the standard on the ratings and proved he handles a testing surface. He's already proven his stamina for this longer trip when defeating a useful rival on debut so he should be able to get the better of the progressive Kazansky here. It probably wasn't the strongest Grade 2 that he won last time at Limerick but he did overcome a troubled passage late and his stamina is assured in these conditions as he drops in trip. Stablemate of the selection Love Me Tender found 2m too sharp at the top level last time and should appreciate this stiffer test. He rates a big threat based on his previous Grade 3 win but needs to prove he handles this softer surface.

The unbeaten MANGE TOUT has already had the number of Narciso Has having beaten that rival by nearly three lengths in a Grade 3 at Fairyhouse and she is taken to confirm that form, despite being 4lb worse off. The selection did have the benefit of a previous outing this term and Narciso Has certainly progressed when landing a Grade 2 over C&D at the Christmas meeting, with North Shore and Barbizon soundly beaten in third and fourth respectively. Willie Mullins' challenge is further bolstered by Selma De Vary and Bertutea, who both won in clear-cut fashion on heavy ground last time. Immediate Effect was rated in the high 80s on the Flat and made a winning start over hurdles at Punchestown.
Mange Tout got the better of NARCISO HAS earlier in the season but he had race fitness on his side that day and may struggle to confirm the form. The unbeaten filly benefitted from a patient ride that day whereas her re-opposing rival helped force a strong pace. He showed an impressive turn of foot when landing a Grade 2 next time and his French form suggests he'll handle the testing ground so he should confirm himself at the head of the Triumph market. The biggest threat may come from his stablemate Selma De Vary who is yet to race on these shores but shaped with plenty of promise when trained in France. COUNTY FINAL has progressed rapidly since making his debut last May and will be suited by this test of stamina. The Eric McNamara-trained gelding opened his account in runaway fashion at Navan in September and after finishing second to subsequent winner Kotkito Bello over an inadequate 2m1f at Punchestown, again filled the runner-up spot behind Kazansky in a 2m7f Grade 2 at Limerick. Champagne Kid is bidding for a hat-trick after scoring over an extended 2m4f here at Christmas, while Duke Silver had several of these rivals behind when successful over a similar trip at this venue. Dippedinmoonlight and Son Of Anarchy are others to consider.
COUNTY FINAL heads the betting and is potentially thrown in back in a handicap based on his game runner up effort in a Grade 2 last time. That form will be tested earlier in the card and his previous handicap defeat is forgiven as he was given far too much to do over an inadequate 2m behind a subsequent winner. Stepped up to staying trips he can continue his progress at the expense of the admirable Staffordshire Knot. The progressive top weight was only caught late by a Grade 1 winner in the Galmoy just last week and looks on a fair mark returned to handicaps. If the race doesn't come too soon he holds strong claims given his class edge. His stablemate Wendrock is also respected off what looks a generous mark based on his juvenile form but he does have some concerns regarding the trip and ground. Dippedinmoonlight caught the eye last time where she fared much the best of those forcing an overly strong pace and she remains unexposed in handicaps. She should have more to offer over staying trips and can fight for a place with Road To Home who returns to hurdling off what looks a fair mark based on his hurdles form.

This appears to be a bit of a penalty kick now for ROMEO COOLIO after the defection of Kopek Des Bordes. Gordon Elliott's charge is three from three over fences and has already struck twice at the top level. He needed every yard of this trip to overhaul Irish Panther here at Christmas and more testing conditions should bring his stamina into play. Dual Grade 1-winning hurdler Kargese is the obvious danger. She was well held on her chase debut in Cork but opened her account in fine style here at Christmas. Downmexicoway is a nice horse in his own right but needs to improve to trouble the front pair.
A slightly disappointing field but ROMEO COOLIO is already proven at this level so should be tough to beat. Admittedly he needed every yard over C&D over the festive period but the testing ground should put an emphasis on stamina and his rivals should ensure a decent gallop. Kargese was an impressive winner at a much lower level last time but the race did fall apart slightly with her main rival falling. She was defeated by a useful performer on debut previously but her strong hurdles form which includes a County Hurdle victory last year suggests she should have more to offer in this sphere. She looks the sole danger with progressive handicapper Downmexicoway out of his depth.

GALOPIN DES CHAMPS ran a fine race in defeat here at Christmas and can land a remarkable fourth success in this race. The 10-year-old led two from home in the Savills Chase but couldn't sustain his effort, getting headed before the final fence. He has displayed a stunning finishing kick in the closing stages here in the past and he can give another masterclass at this venue. Affordale Fury really blossomed in the aforementioned contest and may well have to more to offer. Spindleberry is unbeaten over fences and it will be fascinating to see how she measures up, while Gold Cup winner Inothewayurthinkin will be expected to perform better after a couple of below-par efforts.
The Savills Chase over C&D looks the best place to start here. It was won by Affordale Fury who isn't fully exposed at the top level over fences but he did get first run that day and may struggle on the much softer ground here. Former National winner I Am Maximus was arguably a bit unlucky that day after being hampered late and he should go well if in the same form here though he is another who has produced his best efforts on a quicker surface. The same can be said for Grangeclare West who wasn't beaten far and was unlucky not to be a fair bit closer having been hampered early. He has an excellent record here so can't be dismissed though the Grand National may be the target given he was unlucky in the race last year. GALOPIN DES CHAMPS ran a huge race on his seasonal return as he wasn't best placed to challenge but travelled smoothly until his fitness gave way. Though he lost his unbeaten record here the dual Gold Cup winner proved he retained most of his ability and could turn the tables on this softer ground. His stablemate Gaelic Warrior was only narrowly denied in the King George last time and the talented but quirky 5 time Grade 1 winner could prove his biggest danger if his stamina holds up. That is a concern at this stiffer track on testing ground as it will be for another stablemate Fact To File. The runaway Ryanair winner is top class at his best but needs to bounce back from his Kempton disappointment where he was let down by his jumping.

JACOB'S LADDER has been running in some strong novice contests this season and looks capable of landing a big pot here off this mark of 143. The Mount Nelson gelding chased home a smart sort in Kappa Jy Pyke at Punchestown last time, having won his beginners chase in good style at Fairyhouse over 2m previously. He looks like a better chaser than he was a hurdler. Western Diego bounced back to winning ways in another valuable prize at Fairyhouse and is likely to enter calculations, despite an 8lb rise. Addragoole was a cosy winner here at Christmas but more testing conditions would be a slight concern.
A tight contest where Sean Cleary Farrell may be able to gain a deserved victory after going close in a number of top events recently including the Thyestes where he was unseated late when clear. Once again he partners MORE COKO who showed improved form when dropped back in trip on his handicap debut. He was just caught late by progressive stablemate Western Diego that day who should threaten again but may struggle to confirm the form. The selection went an overly strong pace that day setting it up for a closer but still managed to finish clear of the remainder. He looks set for an easy lead here and with conditions no issue he could be tough to peg back. Gordon Elliott also holds a strong hand here with Jacob's Ladder and Golden Joy. The former is likely to prove popular after a big run in a Grade 3 last time but it is his stablemate who is feared most. The C&D winner returned to form last time where he arguably travelled best before tiring up the Navan hill. It is likely that the visor will help his finishing effort and the easier ground will suit better judged on his hurdles form which also makes his mark look generous.

Harry Swan takes the ride on CHARISMATIC KID and he may prove the pick of the Gordon Elliott-trained quartet. The Affinisea gelding made a big impression when scoring for Colm Ryan on his debut at Navan in December and was subsequently snapped up by Gigginstown for 300,000 pounds. Elliott had the fourth horse that day, With Nolimit, who has won since and reopposes. The Martin Brassil-trained It's Only A Game commands the utmost respect. He was second at the Punchestown Festival on debut last May before running out a cosy winner at the same course on his return in November. Generous Risk has run some nice races without winning a bumper and could reach the frame again.
It's Only A Game has proven popular in the market following an impressive victory on his reappearance in similar conditions. The form of that race has been boosted so he is respected but it is CHARISMATIC KID who makes most appeal. He showed a good turn of foot at a stiff track in testing conditions first time out and had next time out winner With Nolimit well beaten in behind. He looks the clear pick of his stable here and is open to plenty of improvement. The experienced pair Rojuco Mac and Mossy Way aren't ruled out either with the former's recent victory boosted over hurdles. The latter was below par last time but should appreciate the return to softer conditions.
