Expert Analysis
This was not as impressive from Narciso Has as his win at Christmas, but the steady pace was part of that, and this was the perfect prep for the Triumph Hurdle where he is the one to beat. He has now shown his form on fast and slow ground, and off a strong and steady pace, so is clearly a versatile sort.
NARCISO HAS made the running as he had done at Christmas but didn’t go as hard as last time, jumping fluently in front and having his in hand from early in the straight. He is a big chasing type and has a future beyond juvenile hurdles, but he should be hard to beat in the Triumph.
SELMA DE VARY was having her first start in 89 days, and her trainer was at pains to say the run would be needed, both before and after the race. As on her previous win France, she was dropped out in rear and made a big move before the second last (which she jumped fast), coming wide in the straight when her rider was not hard on her. She should improve on this but beating the winner next time is a big ask.
MANGE TOUT had beaten Narciso Has at Fairyhouse in November but was no match for him here and had few excuses beyond perhaps needing the run, her first in 64 days.
NORTH SHORE took a slight step forward on his first start for Gavin Cromwell without suggesting he is up to this level.
IMMEDIATE EFFECT did not hurdle well enough on his first start in Graded company.
BARBIZON failed to finish his race off behind the winner over Christmas after travelling well, and it was the same here despite apparently having had a breathing operation since.
BERTUTEA was disappointing in light of a promising debut at Limerick. He didn’t travel well and was soon beaten after a mistake three out.
