Charlie Johnston had a few near misses at Goodwood last year, but the Johnston clan have far too much class to let a minor hiccup stand in their way.
Rest assured, the Middleham trainer will have his strong team trained to the minute for one of his family’s favourite meeting. The Kingsley Park team have notched up 94 winners at the Qatar Goodwood Festival and 13 trainer's titles and is it an annual pilgrimage they thorough enjoy.
Mother Deidre, father Mark and brother Angus have the small matter of aiming for Olympic glory in Paris in the three-day eventing this weekend, with the very capable horsewoman Deidre taking part in the Dressage on Saturday, the Cross-Country on Sunday and the Showjumping on Monday.
There will be no resting on their laurels as all hands are needed on deck at Goodwood on Tuesday and the family will be meticulously mapping out plans for which they hope will be the much more accustomed success at the major festival.
