Caroline Bailey's gelding PRINCE DES MARAIS looks to have the best chance in this small fielded opener. The seven-year-old scored a first success at Chepstow last time out and has looked in good shape following a wind operation. Tooka won over C&D last May and scored over this trip at Leicester back in March. The handicapper raised him 9lb for that win and he lacked the pace to follow up on that when racing over 2m4f at Kempton. This trip is to his suiting though and he could return to his best. Chapel Flowers disappointed at Huntingdon over 2m5f last time out. He'd won over this trip on his penultimate run and is suited to quicker ground so deserves respect.
A tight little handicap, but Green Gamble has come good following a mid-season break the last 2 campaigns and this might be the day to catch him. Chapel Flowers is probably best forgiven a rare lapse last time and could give him most to do.

Noticeable can be forgiven for his recent effort at Fontwell when the ground was heavy and not to his liking. He won over this distance at Huntingdon last October on better ground and had previously finished second behind the promising Kangaroo Court. A slight preference is for ZAFAR here despite the fact he has not been seen since last August. Tim Vaughan's charge recorded a hat-trick last year over hurdles and makes his debut in this sphere today. He looked a promising hurdler and will warrant respect today. Wessex King made his debut in this sphere at Ludlow recently and was not disgraced. A moderate hurdler, he should improve for that last outing and will be one to keep an eye on.
On the face of it, this looks to lie between Wessex King and Zafar. There wasn't much between them over hurdles, but Wessex King made a no more than satisfactory start over fences last month and Zafar may be able to better that if none the worse for an 8-month absence.

Tesserae comes here with a solid each-way chance. She wasn't at her best over 2m5f at Ludlow back in February and looked to be struggling with the distance. A return to 2m, which was the trip she won at on her hurdles debut, should be to her advantage. Alan King's mare, ASTURIENNE, is the selection here having already scored over C&D back in October. She won handsomely that day and was pulling clear of her rivals after clearing the last. A half-sister to the classy Lough Derg, she has every chance of returning to winning ways today. Hayes Princess won on her hurdling debut after showing potential in her two bumper starts, one of which she won. She cannot be ruled out if at her best.
Asturienne is hardly bombproof given her last 2 runs and that she hasn't encountered ground firmer than good before, but she still rates the most likely winner of an uninspiring contest. Dot's Delight looks the chief threat, while hurdling debutante Altos Reales has the potential to play a part.

MAURTINO turns out for Jonjo O'Neill this evening and will be well suited to the quicker ground. He has steadily improved since his hurdling debut back in December and had previously won six times on the flat in Germany. Dollydo will need to step up to feature today. She is yet to go close since her debut in February but has shown some improvement and will be hoping to finish in the places. Artic Bliss won over 2m1f on good to firm ground in September 2007 and was not seen again until March this year. If she can come on for her two outings this year, then she may have an outside chance.
Mauritino is open to plenty of improvement over hurdles now entering handicaps and has a lot more going for him than the vast majority in a very weak event. Miss Mamma Wagga could do better now switched to this grade, while Zizou couldn't be ruled out in first-time cheekpieces despite some recent jumping blemishes.

Custer Of The West represents Alan King's yard and is a full brother to dual bumper winner Drumberry. He makes his debut here today and will definitely be worth keeping note of. BEDROCK FRED finished third at Exeter seven-days ago and looked much fresher for his lengthy absence. He can improve for that run and the ground today should be to his liking. Karoshdee makes a first appearance for 227-days after she finished third on her bumper debut at Stratford. She is another with possibilities in what looks a tricky bumper to call.
Those with experience hardly set an exacting standard, so this could be best left to Custer of The West, who is ideally bred to make a mark in bumpers. Quidam Blue and Karoshdee could fare best of the rest.

ORIENT LEGEND has been impressing in the point-to-point scene since returning to action at the start of the year. Two successes and two seconds have shown plenty of encouragement and he is taken to make a winning start under rules. Pass The Parsel has won twice between the flags recently but is another who unseated his rider on his first start under rules at Fakenham. Davids Day is yet to score in this code but did win his last point-to-point start and should definitely be considered a danger if putting in a clear round.
Orient Legend and Divine Intavention are the youngest in the line-up and probably possess more scope than the rest, and the first named is given a tentative nod to make a winning start under Rules. High Toby looks best of the remainder.
