This looks an obvious opportunity for TIGER GRR to record a quick-fire double over this C&D as he represents the form horse in the race having been placed on all five of his starts this term. Hitters Count is a contender returning to the mile where he looks to be most affective and drawing a line under his last run, Fairness For All is one to watch out for.
Plenty in with chances here, but it might be worth taking a chance on HE WATCHES OVER ME who was unlucky last time out after being bumped at the start. The time before she won over 6f and she does have C&D form here which only enhances her chance further. Big City Mamma is a danger to the selection but disappointed over this trip at Atlantic City last time out. Elsewhere, Raven's Dancer looks a tempting price and could easily be involved.
Returning to the extended 6f will give QUIET THANKS a great chance to bounce back to winning ways and if ridden prominently again, he will be very hard to pass. Muscadine looked to need a step up in trip last time at Pimlico and should be respected here. Of the others, Hundred Adams goes in search of the hat-trick and could easily cause the selection a problem for Stephanie Beattie.
NEXT MAY is a serious contender here for connections after recording a C&D success in May and a similar performance here would see him go close once more. Beyond Loaded steps down in class and would have claims if he has put his last run behind him. January Gent may appreciate the step back in trip and would be one to watch out for in this.
It is easy to see why Backlit Sky is well fancied here as she represents a model of consistency and also looks versatile. She has claims stepping back in class but preference is for PICO MON who will be more than suited by the step back to the extended 5f. The lightly raced Silly Money is one to keep an eye on, likewise with Mari Bowen but they would both have to improve to get competitive.
Biddy made a respectable debut last year but hasn't been seen since and that would be worrying from a fitness point of view. BIG CITY DEPUTY gets the nod having put in his best effort over this trip last year but, like the danger, Michael Trombetta's charge has been off the track for some time. Indy Tune looks the best of the rest and could pick up the pieces if the principals were to misfire.
REASON TO DRINK stayed on impressively here over the extended 5f to win cosily and will be more than suited by the slight step up to 6f. He goes up in class but seems to be improving with each run and it is hard to imagine him out of contention when it matters most. Gordon Bennett is the danger stepping down in grade and, of the others, Roman Bay looks consistent enough and could run into a place.
Look no further than DERWIN'S STAR for the answer to this. After a string of good efforts at the highest level, she landed the $400k Charles Town Oaks in style last time out. She hasn't run for nine months but wouldn't need to resume at her best to score here. Isn't She Grand was third in a better race than this over 6f at Belmont last month and looks the one for the exacta but Worstcasescenario might not be too far away.
In an open affair, preference is for SMART WOMAN, on a hat-trick tonight. She just got home last time in a similar contest (with Adelicate Miss 15 lengths way in third) but a repeat of that effort should be good enough in this company. The danger looks to be Dream With Us, winner of a $25k claimer at Gulfstream latest and also on a hat-trick here but Octomon has claims on her best form.
In another open contest, it could pay to side with FANCY FOOTSTEPS, winner of a $20k claimer over 5f at Penn three starts ago. She's put in two good efforts here and at Belmont since. As she's won twice over this trip, the step up in distance won't be a worry and she can take this if anywhere near her best. Artistic Talent can be given a chance on the pick of her form but the consistent Wachacha, although stepping up in class, might be a safer bet for the exacta.
