He is dropped in grade tonight against a generally out-of-form bunch and may be capable of overcoming a wide draw to strike. Rogue Reporter is one to note if the money arrives, while the switch to handicaps could eke something extra out of ex-bumper performer Narapatisithu.

CAT O'MOUNTAIN built upon a fair debut fourth at Newmarket when justifying favouritism in a C&D maiden last time. He'll need to improve again to justify an opening rating of 82 but his owners have an excellent strike rate in all-weather handicaps and there should be more to come from a horse that holds a Derby entry for next season. Magical Rose and Mushaakis both step up in trip after breaking their maidens over 7f when last sighted and can improve for the extra furlong to battle it out for second.

BIRDLOVER sets the standard based on his Ascot second in a conditions race earlier in the month and is very difficult to oppose now dropping back into maiden company. Ralph Beckett's charge is drawn wide but, on known form, looks on another level to tonight's opposition. Jodies Jem needs to step up on her heavy-ground Yarmouth third to trouble the selection and the main danger may be lurking amongst the newcomers, with James Fanshawe's Rabdaan feared most.

Birdlover came 8 lengths clear of the rest when just losing out in a sales race at Ascot earlier this month and ought to gain compensation here. Swift Bounty can build on a reasonably encouraging first try, whilst Smart Alice looks just about pick of the newcomers.

HOMAGE looks the most likely winner having built on a fair debut third at Newmarket to land the silver medal over this trip at Newbury. Jeremy Noseda's colt, who fetched 80,000 euros as a yearling, appears to be going the right way and is taken to get the better of the 88-rated Global Icon, who has a solid chance based on his second at Newmarket but who now has a wayward effort over 7f at the same venue to atone for. Rock Up will appreciate the return to 6f and is another to consider.

TITLED GENT has improved considerably on a poor debut effort on turf and is unbeaten in two subsequent runs on polytrack. Brian Meehan's colt was a cosy winner of a 6f Wolverhampton maiden and then struck on his handicap bow over C&D in August. He's 9lb higher now but knows how to get his head in front and may still be ahead of his mark. The Art Of Racing warrants respect, having broken his duck in a York maiden, and can battle it out with fellow handicap debutant Agerzam, a C&D maiden winner at the start of the month, for the minor honours.

ARCH VILLAIN has enjoyed a really productive year, running with credit on both turf and polytrack, but undeniably reserving his best form for the all-weather, on which he was denied a hat-trick when a short-head second over 2m here last month. Amanda Perrett's charge will appreciate a drop back in trip and shades the vote ahead of Kelpie Blitz, who may improve for this stiffer test, and Shestheman, who was beaten by under two lengths off this mark over track and trip earlier this month.

Watch out for: Kelpie Blitz (11)

Numerous possibilities in a wide-open handicap, but Shestheman is more reliable than most and can hopefully get back on the winning trail after being given plenty to do over this C&D recently. Infinite Hope and Kelpie Blitz are suggested as the best alternatives.

GRAND GOLD, who struck over hurdles at Market Rasen last time and is now rated 132 in that sphere, looks of obvious interest now reverting to the Flat on a mark of 70. He had previously finished a staying-on second over 1m2f at Sandown and this longer trip looks ideal as he bids to go one better. Godolphin's Inqadh is making his handicap debut and may improve for the fitting of first-time blinkers but the main danger is probably Nordic Quest, who took a keen hold at Musselburgh but can figure if settling better tonight.
