KING EDMUND makes plenty of appeal in what looks a competitive handicap. Chris Gordon's C&D winner has run well in each of his four outings since returning in early September and won't mind the forecast soft ground here. Passato narrowly lost out to an in-form Rileyev at Newbury latest and should mount a bold bid if in the same mood today, while Renard continues to improve and warrants respect under McCoy despite a further 8lb hike in the handicap. Lancetto and Tara Royal are other respected players.
Renard is just the type his trainer excels with, and he can continue his winning sequence despite the rise in class. Lancetto is a proficient jumper given his lack of experience, and looks a threat, with the consistent King Edmund having place claims again.

HELL'S BAY will take some stopping on his seasonal reappearance if anywhere near peak fitness. He produced a career best performance when beating subsequent Scilly Isles and Haldon Gold Cup winner Medermit at Cheltenham last time and a repeat performance would see him cross the line in front this afternoon. Aerial looks the biggest danger after his fine fourth in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham's Open Meeting last month, while Giorgio Quercus cannot be ruled out representing an in-form Nicky Henderson stable.
Hell's Bay will be hard to beat if in the same form which saw him dig deep to land a Grade 2 novice chase at Cheltenham when last seen in January. Paddy Power Gold Cup fourth Aerial is the obvious main danger.

It's impossible to look past BIG BUCK'S, who now searches for his fourteenth victory in a row. This top-class performer showed that all is well when making a winning return to action in the Grade 2 Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury three weeks ago, beating three of today's opposition in the process, and with Paul Nicholls reportedly leaving plenty to work on prior to that race, this superstar gelding is likely to have improved since and should have no problems dispatching these. Five Dream beat Petitfour (third) and Sparky May (fourth) into second the last day but Keiran Burke's charge is now 8lb better off with the other pair and can reverse placings, although Dynaste looks the one for forecast purposes. David Pipe's five-year-old is the least exposed member of this line-up and couldn't have been anymore impressive when winning a Grade 3 fixed brush hurdle race at Haydock last month. Restless Harry and Cross Kennon both revert to hurdling after slightly disappointing starts to their chasing careers, especially the latter, and look up against it.
Although this is a Grade 1, Big Buck's simply looks in a different league to his rivals and is nigh on impossible to oppose. Dynaste can follow him home.

Plenty in with chances but it might pay to side with the progressive ACT OF KALANISI. The winner of two of his five starts over timber, he wasn't disgraced when third behind Celestial Halo in the Grade 2 Elite Hurdle at Wincanton. Arguably with a little less on his plate under a low weight back in the handicap division today, he could land the spoils. Prospect Wells' only defeat in three starts over hurdles came in a Grade 2 novice event at Cheltenham, when a close second, and he merits close attention off a fair mark with Walsh in the place. Greatwood Hurdle winner Brampour is officially 9lb well-in following last weekend's excellent International Hurdle third but he's had a very busy spell and it'll take another mammoth effort for him to regain the winning thread. Sailors Warn, Gibb River and Raya Star complete the shortlist.
A typically competitive renewal that can go to top-weight Brampour, who has shown himself none the worse for his recent busy spell and is still favourably treated. He may have most to fear from unexposed-stablemate Prospect Wells and Abergavenny, whilst Via Galilei and Gibb River, closely matched on their Sandown running, are unlikely to be far away.
