At 31, Joseph O’Brien is still one of the younger members of the training profession in Ireland, but since taking out his licence in June 2016 he has accumulated a list of big-race winners under both codes that would be the envy of many veteran trainers.
He has enjoyed notable success at the Cheltenham Festival, saddling the winner of both the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle and the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle on two separate occasions. For the last number of seasons, Banbridge has been his stable star over jumps, winning multiple Grade 1 races including the King George VI Chase at Kempton.
While O’Brien has made a conscious decision to greatly reduce the number of National Hunt horses he has in training in recent years, he is still capable of making an impact at the highest level of the sport.
Joseph sat down with Kevin Blake attheraces.com to discuss his team for Cheltenham 2025.
