This is certainly OPERA MUNDI's toughest task to date but he appears fairly versatile concerning trip and ground and it would be no surprise to see Paul Nicholls' 5yo extend his chase record to three wins from three. All Star and Desert Air have to be considered on the pick of their form over timber, but Ursis could prove the biggest threat. He was foot-perfect over the fences when scoring at Hereford last month and his two hurdle victories over 2m demonstrate he has enough speed to go close today.

Monfils Monfils and Osana have shaped with plenty of promise over hurdles in this country and the latter's 11 1/2-length fourth in a Grade 2 contest at Cheltenham last month looks particularly strong. Of slight preference, however, is PREDATEUR who was far from disgraced in a very competitive heat at Cheltenham last month. He's already shown a liking for testing ground and can confirm his recent superiority over subsequent winner Gracechurch. Junior needs to raise his game if he is to score today.

Lucifer Bleu returned to action in fine style at Hereford last month but a 16lb rise in the ratings could prevent him following up today. Tommy Spar is one to note in the betting ring on his long-awaited hat trick attempt, but it could pay to concentrate on Black Hills and ENGLISHTOWN. The former has performed consistently well this term but it's the Jonjo O'Neill-trained 7yo that gets the nod. He's up in the weights but is open to plenty of improvement in this code and has gone well at this venue in the past.

Haggle Twins and Kipsigis each have a bit to prove off their respective handicap marks and a chance is taken with Charlie Mann's NATHOS. He's slipped to a very attractive handicap mark following a few ordinary performances in very strong company and, despite his lengthy losing run, a bold bid can be expected. This should only concern the top two on the card and Nicky Henderson's 5yo AFSOUN is marginally preferred. Last term's proximity to Detroit City would suggest he has a bit to find with Straw Bear but, barring his fall at Kempton on Boxing Day, the selection has looked better than ever this season. He cruised through the mud when scoring with ease at Haydock last time and his Champion Hurdle credentials can be set in stone with victory this afternoon. Trouble At Bay may chase the principals home.

Strong market support for David Pipe's French import Little Brick could prove highly significant but MY WILL looks a safer option.
