ABERGAVENNY, a proficient Flat handicapper, transferred enough of that ability to hurdles when making a winning debut over timber at Hereford last month. He made pretty hard work of things though before eventually prevailing quite comfortably and should be able to follow up in what looks a slightly easier race. Enjoy Your Life was only beaten a couple of lengths into fourth here last time, albeit in a falsely-run affair, and rates the main threat, with hurdling debutant Jamaddji next best.
This looks a straightforward opportunity for Abergavenny to supplement his success at Hereford last week. Enjoy Your Life is probably the safest option for the forecast.

Arguments can be advanced for all, but DON CASTILLE gets the vote. He returned from an absence of nearly two years when running a smashing race at Market Rasen last month and can defy top weight if not subject to the 'bounce' factor. Bob Will has shown improved form since going chasing, albeit in modest company, and should go well off this mark, whilst Icy Colt and Barron Watlass are obviously hard to evaluate on their respective chase debuts.
Bob Will has done better since switched to fences and Barron Watlass is very much a chaser on looks, but Don Castille looks the one to beat after an encouraging comeback run at Market Rasen.

Flying Doctor and Lawgiver appear in the handicapper's grip and SAN DENG is taken to continue his solid run of form under his conditional pilot. The combination were swept aside by Ascendant last time but a consistent overall profile affords him decent claims in a contest featuring many out-of-form contenders. Trip and ground appear fine. Patriot should be all the better for a recent pipe-opener, whilst Knar Mardy's two wins have arrived at this venue. He's interesting if ready after an absence.
San Deng has struck up a good rapport with Joe Colliver and the pair look the most reliable betting medium in this contest, although Flying Doctor is interesting in his bid to follow up last year's success. The quirky Oniz Tiptoes again has place claims.

This possibly isn't BORDER REIVER's ideal trip but it is very much his track, with all three career wins coming here. Never in danger of defeat last time when making all over a longer trip, he's up 7lb for that success but can outgun these rivals with another front-running display under regular pilot Richie McGrath. Course winner Storm Surge disappointed the last twice but has claims at his best and remains unexposed, whilst there may be better to come over fences from useful hurdler Hazeldene.
Storm Surge ought to make a bold bid to repeat last year's win, but preference is for Border Reiver, who should get the strong pace he needs at this trip with 3 front runners in the line-up. All his 3 wins have come at this track.

SHERWOODS FOLLY will find this on the short side but can still outclass this opposition. The ex-Henry Daly trained gelding hasn't been seen under Rules for over a year but has enjoyed a decent time of things between flags and clearly retains ability. The remainder haven't been seen under Rules for a long time and the market will provide the likeliest guide to expectations, but recent point-to-point form suggests Chancery Lad and Blandings Castle are the leading dangers.
One-time fairly useful chaser Sherwoods Folly hasn't hit the heights expected of him since joining the pointing ranks, but he should be good enough to land this modest contest on his return to Rules. Forge Valley has age on his side and has the potential to improve.

KING'S CHORISTER can finally gain that elusive first success over timber. He travels really well through races before usually finding one or two too good but most of his rivals are not in the best of form and Henry Brooke can hopefully cajole him home here off an appealing mark. Lap Of Honour is a massive threat at his best, especially if forgiven a recent Ludlow disappointment, whilst Dance For Julie and Yeomanry also command a level of respect.
Ben Haslam took this last year with Hi Dancer and can repeat the feat with recent Flat scorer Dance For Julie. King's Chorister looks the biggest threat.
