KING O'THE GYPSIES represents powerful connections and while his recent third to The Giant Bolster over timber at Market Rasen isn't earth-shattering form, he did win a 12f maiden at Bath for Roger Charlton on the Flat and has a useful pedigree. Edge Of Town was in contention until after the final flight when fourth to City Theatre at Market Rasen last time and may represent a spot of value. He had previously finished third in two bumpers and probably needed the Market Rasen spin to bring him to the boil. Stablemate Echoes Of Dawn is well worth noting with an eye to the future.
King O'The Gypsies made a decent start when third over hurdles last month, and given the dearth of opposition he has to be the selection despite slight concerns over the trip. Echoes Of Dawn is the main danger.

MANJAM, ridden by the up-and-coming Giles Hawkins for an in-form yard, looks the one to be on. Manjam showed his first real sign of ability when second to Zabeel Palace at Plumpton in October and that rival has since won twice more, including in a much better grade. Manjam clearly had his hands full that day, but has done his bit for the form by going on to score at Bangor and Hereford. Seven Stars, flattered by a Huntingdon third to Starluck 14 months ago but nevertheless has an each-way chance, while King Raven may have a bit more improvement in him than the relatively exposed Papradon.
The likely principals are all unproven on ground this soft, but Manjam would appear to have strong claims of completing the hat-trick and is preferred to the promising pair of Seven Stars and Andorn.

A disappointing turn-out, but probably a good tussle in the offing between RORY BOY and Gansey. The selection gets a very handy 10lb if his rider's allowance is taken into account and that should swing the issue. Rory Boy, successful over fences at Wetherby and Warwick this term, seems to have improved a fair bit even from a year ago. He looks willing to battle, which counts for plenty. Gansey overcame two blunders to win a novice chase at Haydock last time and has some scope for improvement. His hurdles win at Fakenham last season was gained with Ruby Walsh on board. Calin Royal will be ready to pounce if things go wrong for the aforementioned pair.
This looks a match between Gansey and Rory Boy, and though the latter has achieved the most over fences so far, the former is a stronger stayer and is taken to improve past him.

Interesting to see Mister McGoldrick switched back to hurdling. The old boy is not as speedy as he once was, but he is favourably handicapped (even off top weight) compared to his chase mark and he does have a real soft spot for this venue. There is plenty to like about SIR TANTALLUS HAWK (nap), who reeled off a hurdles hat-trick early last year. He shaped well behind Factotum at Ffos Las last month and - still only five - may not have stopped improving. Terenzium is respected by virtue of a previous course and distance win and receives plenty of weight from the two at the top. Pagan Starprincess is useful on her 'going' days.
Sir Tantallus Hawk will love the ground and looks the class act in an admittedly wide-open contest. Last year's winner Terenzium and Palm Reader are 2 of a number of others with plenty going for them.

Some strong stables are represented and including Richard Fahey who saddles newcomer Danderek, a Fantastic Light gelding out of a Grand Lodge mare. Nayef's son Royal Riviera is the subject of encouraging reports and hails from a yard with a good record in these events, while Acquisitive (placed on his debut) and Pie At Midnight must go on the shortlist, too. However, Pam Sly sent out a well-backed bumper winner in the south last week and that makes CHICKLEMIX of potential interest, especially her trainer won races with the dam, Chichell's Hurst.
Pie At Midnight, Danderek and Chicklemix head a host of potentially interesting newcomers, but these conditions won't help those with no experience. With that in mind, Acquisitive gets the nod, with Salto Angel of interest at a bigger price.

KILKENNY ALL STAR probably found a relatively soft handicap opening here last time when beating William Bonney, but the style of the win impressed and he may well be on the upgrade for Sue Smith. Polar Gunner returns from a lengthy absence, but his excellent strike-rate of 11 wins from 31 starts over jumps will strike fear in the hearts of the opposition. Elite Land has the pace to run well if his jumping stands the test, but perhaps it will be recent Lingfield runner-up Babe Heffron (also entered in a race at Chepstow today) who does best of the others. Suntini, who beat him at the Surrey track, could turn out to be a cut above average this winter.

DAWN RIDE still figures at the right end of the handicap despite being 6lb higher than when successful over these fences 10 days ago and has clearly struck up a good partnership with his claiming rider. Canada Street is on a losing run of nine and there are a couple of non-completions in that sequence, but he is clearly handicapped to go close on his best form. Bannister Lane stays all day and may find even this extended 3m too tight, but course winners Flake and Laborec (also entered in a race at Chepstow today) come well into the reckoning and the latter is of particular interest with first-time cheekpieces fitted.
Hard to be completely confident about any of these, but Canada Street shaped on his return last month as though his turn could be near again and might be the one. Bannister Lane is unreliable as a rule but is in with a chance here off his current weight, while Gripit N Tipit looks the dark horse.
