OK CORRAL was a high-class novice hurdler last season, finishing second in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham, and he won well on his debut over fences last month. A reproduction of that effort would give him a big chance this afternoon. He will need to take another step forward to land this but he is unexposed and improving. Rockpoint sets the standard following his Grade 2 victory at Cheltenham last time out but he is vulnerable under a 5lb penalty. With Birchdale out, Stoney Mountain could give Tidal Flow most to think about.

Milansbar returns to the scene of his biggest career success in this contest 12 months ago but that came on much softer underfoot conditions and this looks a stronger renewal on paper. Calett Mad, second in the Borders National at Kelso over 4m, and last year's runner-up Cogry both warrant respect for Nigel Twiston-Davies, but the vote goes to DUEL AT DAWN. A winner on good ground in his novice hurdle days, this looks to have been the plan since his second to Ms Parfois in the novice chase on this card last year and a recent run in the Tommy Whittle at Haydock should have blown the cobwebs away. Step Back, Un Temps Pour Tout, and Ultragold all appear to have the Grand National as their big target this season so it will be interesting to see how they fare with that event in mind.

A mid-winter break could be just what FIRST ASSIGNMENT ordered having seen his hat-trick bid end in defeat at Haydock in a Grade 3 contest. However, he was beaten less than two lengths on that occasion by a horse who won the Grade 1 Long Walk Hurdle on his next start and Ian Williams' six-year-old looked a progressive animal in the early part of the season when landing a pair of Cheltenham handicaps. Keeper Hill was back to something like his best when second at Cheltenham in December and is easily the pick of Warren Greatrex's pair in this, while it is interesting that Blaklion reverts to hurdles following a disappointing return in the Becher Chase and he could be well treated off a mark 5lb lower than his chase rating. Lungarno Palace is another to keep an eye on following some smart performances this winter and was second on his only previous outing here.
