Beaten just over three lengths when third in a more valuable C&D race a fortnight ago, ASPIRING GOLD appears to have been found a decent opportunity to regain winning ways. Amoreena won half her ten races last year and remains in good form, so must be a danger, while Whispered Affair has been making hay in lower grade and could reach the frame.
Matluck has an obvious chance from his good draw but, like Scottsdale Style, his limitations are there for all to see, so a chance is taken on ORIGINATOR who boasts the fastest best dirt speed among today's starters and should strip a lot fitter than when beaten a long way on his recent reappearance after nine months on the sidelines.
In excellent form towards the end of last year, MOTIVO was beaten less than a length over a slightly longer trip here almost three weeks ago and is fancied to go one better now he is partnered by a high-percentage jockey. My Cupid is the most obvious danger as he bids to complete a hat trick, while Frontena Cat is no back number and has the benefit of a good draw.
Dropping down in grade yet again, DADDYSANGBASS should be capable of atoning for his recent failure to justify favouritism over this C&D, although it seems certain that Whatadin might have something to say about it. Of the remainder, Thread Of Hope would make more appeal if he didn't have such a poor record at this track.
There is a slight concern regarding this distance, but RUN NICHOLAS RUN was only narrowly beaten almost a fortnight ago and must surely go close. Good Season has to enter calculations if his latest hefty defeat can be forgiven, but the biggest danger could be Fleeting Alliance who ran well in much more valuable races last year and is eligible to improve in his second start since returning from a five-month absence.
It was hard not to be impressed by LITTLE COWGIRL'S emphatic all-the-way success here last time, and while this represents a step up in class, she thoroughly deserves a crack at this grade. Lil Blue Sky has been running reasonably well in allowance races of late, while Tiplersville may improve for her third start after an eight-month layoff.
The three main protagonists from a race over track and trip on Jan 17 reoppose, with Lil Celeste likely to confirm her superiority over Charging and B R Lady. However, they may all have to give best to SLEW LA LA, a comfortable winner when stepped up to a route here last time and likely to be open to improvement at this trip.
Kresgeville enjoyed victory thanks to a change of tactics last time, with Muir Beach and Robyn's Day behind, but her wire-to-wire effort may not be repeated here with LIL EASY in the field. Jacque Gerra's mare has been in sparkling form of late, and should benefit from the switch to the main track after failing on the lawn last time.
EXPLOITITRIGHT looks to have found an ideal opportunity to complete a four-timer here. Sam Alton's gelding produced a devastating late burst to take a similar race last time and could prove capable of winning higher up the ladder. Kingsburg did just enough to score on his debut and could go close if improving on that, while Hi It's Mike should be happier after failing over a route.
