Three-year-olds have won the last two renewals of this race and they can dominate again. BELLE D'OR, in particular, looks a very smart filly and did well to win at Sandown off a modest gallop where she was patently caught flat-footed as the leader kicked for home. She just managed to grab victory from the jaws of defeat and with the likelihood of a stronger pace, she can put on a more impressive show. Provenance is another who did well to win on her latest outing and is a big threat, with the form of that victory receiving a boost at the St Leger meeting. Batrana didn't beat much when successful on the July Course but she could hardly have done any more and can go well. Of the older fillies, Gifted Girl has more than enough ability to land this, but she hasn't looked overly enthusiastic this season and isn't one for maximum faith.

Watch out for: Provenance (9)

Highly progressive 3-y-os Belle d'Or and Provenance look the pair to focus on here, with the former edging the vote given she's already a winner at this level. Etaab is expected to resume progress back on a better surface and makes each-way appeal.

MY SPIRIT shades the vote in a ferociously competitive heat. After landing the hat-trick in a decent handicap at Newbury in June, she shaped as though needing this step up in trip when a staying-on third in a 1m2f Listed event at Salisbury. She has since finished second at Saint Cloud - where she was forced to make the pace in a tactical affair - and can go very close here now granted her ideal conditions. Jordan Princess finally delivered on the promise she had shown earlier in her career when successful at Goodwood. She is feared, along with the Cheveley Park pair Criteria and Queen Of Ice. The former is likely to play a leading role dropped back in trip after finding an extended 1m6f beyond her in the Park Hill. Long View is worth keeping an eye on in the betting.

LUCIDA arrives with the strongest form in the line-up and she can prove herself a leading 1000 Guineas contender. After an excellent second in a Group 2 on just her second start, she stepped up again to finish a neck behind Cursory Glance in the Moyglare Stud Stakes. A reproduction of that effort should be sufficient here, though New Providence is not discounted after adding a Group 3 to her CV most recently. She nailed a useful filly (who has won again since) on the line over 6f that day and is likely to improve further now tackling 7f. Calypso Beat is a very solid filly and ought to be on the premises again. Fadhayyil should carry on progressing now she has a win on the board and is respected too.

Watch out for: New Providence (6)

Lucida was only just touched off in 2 notable pattern races (most recently by Cursory Glance in the Moyglare) since her winning debut and makes plenty of appeal for a yard that won this race with Finsceal Beo in 2006. New Providence is feared most having edged out the well-touted Marsh Hawk in a Group 3 at Salisbury, while Fadhayyil is respected now fast-tracked to this level.

A wide-open renewal in which the improving CAPTAIN CAT could prove hard to tame. He has improved no end this season and his comfortable Haydock success was another step forward. He put the race to bed very easily that day, having travelled powerfully, and he can take this step up in class in his stride. Wannabe Yours did tremendously well to win at Glorious Goodwood after being short of daylight at a crucial stage. He is totally unexposed and is a leading player. Tullius and Custom Cut have been around the block a few times but both are more than capable of playing a big part. Outstrip should have no excuses today and if running up to his St James' Palace third, he can go very close.

Watch out for: Wannabe Yours (14)

Tullius sets the standard based on his exploits in Group 1 company, but the chances are Captain Cat will also be plying his trade at that level sooner rather than later given the impression he's made this season, and he's taken to record his fourth win from his last 5 starts. Wannabe Yours is a lightly-raced, progressive 3-y-o, and he completes the shortlist.

WINDSHEAR stands out here and if he is fully recovered from his terrific effort in the St Leger, he should land this with the minimum of fuss. He has only got his head in front once this season but it hasn't been for the want of trying, and he should have too much class for his rivals. Harris Tweed could be dangerous if allowed a soft lead on his first start after a short break. Nabucco and Red Galileo both bring solid form to the table and might take advantage should the selection fail to deliver.

Watch out for: Red Galileo (7)

Windshear sets the standard dropping in grade but he had a hard race in the St Leger less than 2 weeks ago and cound be worth taking on with Flying The Flag, who was a pattern winner for Ballydoyle last summer and showed he still retains a smart level of ability on his comeback for new connections at York 5 weeks ago. Red Galileo is another to consider.

Maiden races at this time of year can often be informative and the betting will likely reveal expectations for many of these. YAMLLIK is a full-brother to Group 1 winner Sajjhaa (who won first time out), he holds a Racing Post Trophy entry and hails from a yard that can ready one first time out. He appears a leading candidate on paper and it will be interesting to see which way he goes in the market. Hathal and Mubtaahij both cost a fair amount of money, as did Mutamakkin, but Sir Michael Stoute's juveniles have been needing the run of late and that may well be the case with Consort too. Of the horses with experience, Nota Cambiata can improve on his debut sixth at Sandown, where he displayed clear signs of greenness.

This is the consolation race for those who missed the Cambridgeshire cut on Saturday, but the well-handicapped Air Pilot has opted not to take his chance in this contest either. In his absence, unexposed John Gosden representative GM HOPKINS is expected to follow up his handicap debut victory at Sandown now running under a 4lb penalty. Munaaser was keeping on well at the finish when fifth at York last time and may improve for this extra furlong, while Mange All, who failed to get home over further at Doncaster last time, also looks a major player now dropped in distance. Runner-up off 5lb lower 12 months ago, Sheila's Buddy might be one to interest each-way punters and could be creeping into contention late on under Richard Hughes.
