There was certainly no disgrace in finishing runner-up behind Oceane at Kempton, and a repeat of that performance could see BIG MCINTOSH first past the post. His biggest danger looks to be dual Flat winner Vilman, who interestingly has top jockey Richard Johnson booked for his NH debut. The Compeller wasn't without promise on his hurdling bow at Perth 44 days ago and he cannot be ruled out either.
VILMAN was a fairly useful winner on the Flat for Michael Halford, and looks an interesting recruit to hurdling (new connections paid 95,000 gns for him), so he looks worth chancing under Richard Johnson. The Compeller shaped encouragingly on hurdles debut recently, but will be suited by further in time, while Big McIntosh needs to settle better, but merits respect nonetheless.

BRISE VENDEENNE made a promising seasonal reappearance/first start for Philip Hobbs when chasing home the smart Hollies Pearl at Chepstow and, entitled to improve for that first outing since December, she will be well fancied to go one better. Carinena only found the progressive Miss Dinamic (has won a chase since) too good on her hurdling debut at Perth and she is likely to be in the shake-up again, while Irish raider Blayney Queen also has place credentials.
BRISE VENDEENNE improved again on her first start for current connections when runner-up at Chepstow last month, and she looks the way to go with further improvement very much a possibility. Carinena looks the one to give her most to do.

SERENITY NOW won a lot easier than the three-and-three-quarter-length margin suggests at Towcester and an 8lb rise might not be enough to anchor him if arriving in the same mood. Western Way was no match for Work In Progress in novice company at Kempton but he can mount a bold bid on his return to handicaps. Claude Carter returned to form at Kelso and is worthy of consideration back at the track where he last won.
SERENITY NOW continued his improvement over hurdles when scoring at Towcester last month. He won with plenty in hand on that occasion, and despite the handicapper having had a say since, he is fancied to follow up. Western Way ran well in novice company last time and looks a big danger with the assistance of Richard Johnson.

THE BACKUP PLAN has impressively notched up a double at Sedgefield and although a further 4lb rise is sure to make life more difficult, he might be able to strike again whilst the iron is hot. Present Flight possibly wasn't helped by the slowish ground and inadequate 2m4f trip at Hexham and he can take closer order now forecast to get a faster surface and stepping back up in distance. Mo Rouge steps down in class and he shouldn't be underestimated either.
Dual hurdles winner MO ROUGE took a step back in the right direction when not beaten far on his chasing return after a break at Carlisle recently and has sound prospects of notching his first win in this sphere. The Backup Plan and To Begin are feared most.

VILLAGE VIC has had his fair share of injury problems over the years but he showed that the engine is still there when producing a battling win on his reappearance at Wetherby, and a 4lb rise might not to be enough to stop him if arriving in the same determined mood. Mwaleshi is having his sights lowered and can run a big race off top-weight, while Kodicil won well on his latest chase appearance at Uttoxeter and a subsequent spin on the Flat will have kept his fitness levels up.
MWALESHI shaped with plenty of encouragement when reappearing at Aintree recently. He will be more at home back over this shorter trip and is given the nod over Village Vic, who was better than ever when making a winning return at Wetherby in October. Quito du Tresor isn't the most reliable by any means, but will prove dangerous off a career-low mark if having one of his better days.

Breakdown Cover warrants plenty of respect making his debut for a trainer who boasts an impressive 28% strike-rate with his bumper runners in Britain over the last five seasons, but it could pay to side with the proven form of SAND BLAST. Brian Ellison's gelding displayed a fair level of ability in two appearances last season and won't have to improve a great deal, if at all, to open his account here. My Vicky is another newcomer to note making the trip over from County Wicklow.
