SANDYGATE will not get many better opportunities than this in his bid to break his duck over hurdles and, representing last year's winning trainer Philip Hobbs, who could hardly have his string in better order, a big performance looks assured. The son of Golan stepped up on a mediocre display at Ludlow when finishing a close third here in May and he's entitled to have improved again over the summer. Danvinnie has shaped with some promise in two bumpers at Towcester and is shortlisted along with Bon Enfant.

Watch out for: Danvinnie (2)

SANDYGATE left the impression he has more to offer in a decent maiden hurdle (which is working out well) over this course back in May, and Philip Hobbs took this race with a similar type last year, so he looks to have leading claims. Hurdling-debutants Danvinnie and Bon Enfant look nice types, and they both command respect, also.

EMILY GRAY, an above-average performer over hurdles, brings a mark of 143 to the table reverting to fences on her seasonal debut and Kim Bailey's charge should have the beating of these rivals if ready to roll. Last seen finishing ninth in the Mares' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, she bumped into the exciting Vroum Vroum Mag on her chase bow at Wexford 12 months ago and finished a nose second in a Listed affair at Doncaster on her only other start over the larger obstacles. Ebony Empress and Cresswell Breeze can fight it out for the minor money.

On the pick of her form, Avispa could be thrown in off 119 going handicapping for the first time. Winner of the Listed mares' bumper at Aintree last year, Alan King's charge has finished second in five subsequent starts over hurdles and although she's entitled to improve for the fitting of a hood, she's beginning to prove a frustrating mare to follow. For that reason, she is taken on with JEAN FLEMING, who is expected to have come forward for her Ludlow reappearance and remains on a decent mark if her impressive course success in March is anything to go by. Abundantly is another interesting contender.

A lacklustre effort at this track in June sticks in the memory, though, and he fell on his reappearance at Plumpton. Treacy Hotels Boy also came to grief on his latest start at Fakenham, so THE INFORMANT gets the nod on the basis that he won well here back in April and is entitled to strip fitter for his Worcester spin last month.

Third and not beaten far over C&D last month, the son of Milan is entitled to come on for that first outing since July and if that's the case, his connections appear to have found him a real opening. Hassadin wouldn't be without claims on the pick of his form but may have something to find with the selection on a line through Tokyo Javilex. Spanish Fork completes the shortlist.

Rebecca Curtis sends one horse to Fontwell and KNIGHT TO OPEN is fancied on his racecourse debut. A 52,000-euro purchase at Tattersalls Ireland in June 2013, the son of Oscar is a brother to bumper/chase winner Daymar Bay and half-brother to a 2m hurdle winner. Expected to be fully wound-up, he can get the better of Stratford second William H Bonney and Newton Abbot runner-up Clondaw Cian, a point-to-point winner in February.

Flat-bred WILLIAM H BONNEY made a pleasing start, despite racing with the choke out for much of the way, when runner-up at Stratford in March. He arguably sets the standard and could take some stopping if settling better this time. Clondaw Cian, Briac and Bindon Mill are feared most in a race where many are open to improvement.
