CLEAR SAILING displayed likeable battling qualities when making every yard of the running in this company over C&D last week and will prove a tough nut to crack if in similar mood today. Laurie Grove is ahead of his rivals on official ratings and looks the most likely danger, while Kindlelight Blue could be worth closely monitoring in the betting market for any possible clues on his first run since March last year.
Clear Sailing is a force to be reckoned with at this level and he will take some pegging back if allowed to set his own tempo. Laurie Grove looks better forecast material than Head Down.

It could pay to side with UNDERSTORY on his racecourse bow. Mark Johnston's colt is bred to want further in time but is sure to be fairly wound up and this isn't the strongest of maidens. Major Maximus has shown plenty of ability in six starts so far and should go close providing the application of blinkers doesn't have a negative effect, while Rightcar Joan may be able to get of the better of Sweet Avon for third-place prize money.
Major Maximus has a few placed efforts to his name but he doesn't exactly set a daunting standard for the Mark Johnston newcomer Understory, and he looks the one to side with if the market speaks in his favour.

ALFIE TUPPER has not won for over a year now but he has only been beaten a nose on his last two outings and the well-handicapped son of Soviet Star is fancied to return to winning ways for a stable that has started the new year in good form. Bavarica continues to hold her form well and should be on the premises, while Charlie Smirke is another knocking on the door and cannot be left out of calculations.
Bavarica has posted some highly creditable efforts in defeat over the course of the last couple of months and looks the most likely winner. Alfie Tupper and Rapid City are others worth considering.

PRINCE OF SORRENTO managed to repel the re-opposing Transfixed on his first run in the handicap ranks over course and distance last week and is fancied to get the better of that argument again today. The latter meets on 1lb better terms this afternoon but John Akehurst's charge has the greater scope for improvement and can land a double. Lisahane Bog seeks a five-timer and looks most likely to exploit any flaws in the selection.
Prince of Sorrento and Lisahane Bog are easily the most progressive in the line-up and look the pair to concentrate on, with narrow preference for the former, who appeared to have plenty in hand when beating Transfixed and Exceedthewildman over C&D last weekend.

Mick Easterby's charge is 6lbs clear on official ratings and can call upon the assistance of Jamie Spencer, in the plate for four of the gelding's twelve career wins. Aeroplane arrives here in good heart and looks a bigger threat than the veteran Eisteddfod.
This looks Atlantic Story's for the taking on the back of his effort here last week. Aeroplane may have to settle for second again.

MAFEKING has been knocking hard on the door lately and deserves to be let in this afternoon. He does have a tendency to find one too good but he looks certain to mount another bold bid. Course and distance winner Full Toss has not been disgraced over longer trips recently but he will probably be happier now down in distance. Vainglory makes most appeal of the remainder.
Luberon's last 2 efforts weren't as bad as the bare facts suggest and he can take advantage of some leniency from the handicapper. Most of the field find wins hard to come by but Bureaucrat and Full Toss are weighted to play a part if in the mood.

The twice-raced GREYFRIARSCHORISTA, a silver medallist at Wolverhampton latest, probably has the greatest scope for improvement and gets the nod. Mark Johnston's charge stepped up on his debut run with that latest effort and further progress would make him tough to beat. Well-bred newcomer Into Wain is worth a second look in the betting ring, while it's unlikely we've seen the best of Baggsy just yet.
This should be easy pickings for Greyfriarschorista. Newcomer Into Wain and Tilsworth Glenboy can chase him home.
