The Howard Johnson bandwagon is starting to roll and COUNTY COLOURS looks a logical selection after a more than satisfactory return to action when beaten by the useful Flat performer Recession Proof at Carlisle earlier in the month. That represented a significant improvement on last season's hurdling efforts and he looks ready to break his maiden here if repeating that level. Si Bien looks a major threat though, especially if forgiven his final effort of the last campaign when probably over the top. He should do well this term, with Mr Jay Dee, Maggio and Flichity others to note.

Watch out for: Si Bien (9)

Si Bien can get James Ewart's campaign off to a flyer in what's likely to prove an informative maiden hurdle. County Colours looks quirky but must enter the reckoning, while Mr Jay Dee is open to improvement over timber.

STORM PROSPECT has not visited the winner's enclosure for over two years and has yet to score over fences but this could be his day. He is solid enough over both hurdles and fences and has been dropped a further 2lb since his latest chase outing when a fair fourth to King Roonah at Perth. He receives 22lb from Amalfi Coast but the top-weight did it well last time at Sedgefield and rates the leading threat on that evidence. Sirkeel ran some decent races last term and cannot be discounted if ready to roll on his seasonal reappearance.

Watch out for: Amalfi Coast (1)

Border Reiver and Sirkeel both need to be monitored in the market returning from absences, but it might pay to side with the more solid credentials of Amalfi Coast, who is in good form and still has scope for better over fences.

JURISDICTION improved dramatically on previous efforts when scooting away with what looked a decent handicap hurdle over course and distance last spring. Returned to novice company here, this looks an attractive starting point for the new season and he is hard to oppose. Dove Hill is obviously of interest for the Howard Johnson team and the market should tell us more, with the Old Vic gelding having being off track for well over 600 days. Sam Hall is another recruit of interest from the pointing field, whilst Elevenses and Bow School have also shown enough to suggest they can have their say.

Course and distance winner Pyracantha looks open to further improvement but has plenty of weight on this handicap debut and GRAND DIAMOND looks a decent option. Jim Goldie's charge continues to give an excellent account under both codes and seems sure to give his running once again, with his useful conditional pilot taking off a very handy 7lb. He needs to reverse placings with Midnite Blews on their most recent form at this venue but looks weighted to do so. However, the Barnes charge is clearly in grand heart and remains definite shortlist material.

Maurice Barnes clearly has his string in fine form at present and it would come as no surprise if SOUBRIQUET added to the yard's tally. He appeared to win with plenty in hand at Perth last month and is worth rowing in with again as he harbours considerable room for improvement as a 7-y-o. Youngstown enjoyed a solid first season over fences last term and could be well up to a race of this nature if he's improved as anticipated over the summer, whilst Casadei needs to be taken seriously in receipt of a stone or more from all rivals.

Watch out for: Youngstown (2)

Always Right was one of the better hunters last season and can surely win from this mark if able to translate that form to handicaps. Youngstown remains a stayer on the up, while Casadei is potentially very well treated.

MORNING SUNSHINE has really found his form with a vengeance over the past couple of months, the improvement coinciding with Adrian Lane taking the ride on the Presenting gelding. He is asked to concede weight all round here but he's hard to get away from, having impressed especially when handing out a five-length beating to Woodlark Island at Bangor last week. Kosta Brava has a very mixed profile but is useful at his best and cannot be discounted, whilst Tranos has returned in decent heart this term and houses decent each-way credentials. More Shennanigans is another possible.
