ELY BROWN looks an interesting hurdler in the making and Tony McCoy journeys north to take the mount on the progressive Rachel Hobbs inmate. The gelding scored with real authority on his hurdling debut at Worcester and the former pointer can defy a penalty and maintain his improvement. Crop Walker has far more experience under his belt and represents the major threat after a series of decent handicap efforts but does lack the scope of the selection. Be My Deputy has bits and pieces of form but is unproven over the trip, whilst Soleil Malta has shown some bumper promise.
Ely Brown impressed when winning at Worcester and should have little problem following up despite his penalty. Crop Walker looks clear second best with Be My Deputy having questions to answer.

Nigel Twiston-Davies has won with his only runner at this venue in the last five years and Desolait has to be of interest making the long trek from Gloucestershire. The mare has shown enough to suggest she can pick up a small contest and the yard has an excellent record with inmates returning from lengthy absences. She may well be good enough but NEWDANE DANCER showed a good attitude when reeling in Tower in what looked an above-average Cartmel novice hurdle on her first run for Dianne Sayer. She looks the safer option, with Catawollow the obvious each-way shout.
Market support for the returning Desolait would look ominous, but as things stand recent Cartmel winner Newdane Dancer is preferred to Catawollow.

Prince Of Denial is hard to evaluate on this chasing debut, conceding weight all round to battle-hardened fencers. A model of consistency over timber this year, he may well have too much class for his rivals but STORM SURGE looks tempting in receipt of weight. He didn't seem to enjoy the return to hurdling last time but previously had been the only one to get close to Border Reiver at Wetherby. Cabbyl Doo stepped up last time and makes the shortlist but Schinken Otto reserves his best for Sedgefield these days and Spirit Calling is an infrequent winner.
Spirit Calling might be prone to errors but the fences here aren't stiff and he gets the nod over Storm Surge and Cabbyl Doo.

This may not be quite as competitive as the numbers suggest and DANCE FOR JULIE is taken to atone for an unfortunate fall at Sedgefield when certain to score. She has scope for improvement over timber and Ben Haslam has his string in fine form at present. Waldo Winchester rates a strong contender too, having performed well on both visits to the track, notably when scoring with plenty in hand here last month. Weetfromthechaff is another that goes well here and makes the shortlist along with Kai Broon, progressive until disappointing last time, for which he is forgiven.
7 lb extra wouldn't have stopped Dance For Julie winning at Sedgefield last time but for a late departure, and she's a good bet to get it right this time. Word of Warning also took a tumble in that race, and he looks next best, ahead of Kai Broon.

PARSON'S PUNCH looks on the upgrade and can follow up a recent first success when overcoming difficulties in running to score at Perth. Backed into favouritism that day, the gelding previously came to grief when travelling well at this venue in the contest won by Executive's Hall. The selection can defy a 7lb penalty at the main expense of Patriot, back to something like his best when landing a decent Wetherby handicap last month. He remains competitive off a 4lb higher mark, whilst Irish raider Storm Breaker showed enough behind Dunowen Point at Cartmel recently to warrant a solid mention.
Parson's Punch takes on mostly exposed rivals and a penalty may not be enough to stop him following up his Perth win. Patriot and Pickworth appeal most of the remainder.

DEVIL WATER could probably have won at Sedgefield last time had different tactics been employed and is worth another chance over the same trip here. He looks the sort to be suited by this tough track, having stayed on resolutely to score at Kelso on his previous outing. Darkan Road is an interesting opponent off a fair mark, having shown promise in a more than satisfactory chasing debut at Sedgefield and Alistair Findlay claims an additional and very useful 7lb. Ginger's Lad was beaten a long way into third at Wetherby but has claims on his previous success at Southwell.
Devil Water has seen his races out better since being tongue tied, and makes most appeal in a race full of question marks. Darkan Road has more scope than any if he goes the right way after a promising chasing debut, while Ginger's Lad should do better with blinkers back on.

A market watch is crucial with David Barron and Ann Duffield unveiling newcomers, namely Jacob McCandles and Snare, with Jason Maguire an eyecatching booking for the former. However, experience can be valuable in these contests and GOLDEN VIEW is taken to score on his first outing for Karen McLintock who enjoys a decent bumper record. The ex-Irish gelding showed plenty of promise in Sligo and Kelso bumpers and the market should give an indication as to his well-being after a considerable absence. Graham Lee is a good booking.
