The Irish plundered five of the seven races held here at the back end of August so any market support for Philip Rothwell's A Haon A Do should be heeded. The Irish challenger is, however, still winless over hurdles after seven attempts and AOHNA gets the vote. The selection, a useful 'bumper' performer, only narrowly failed to reel in Mumbles Pier on her hurdling debut at Stratford last month and is in the right hands to progress further. Hereford 'bumper' winner Silver Kate lost little in defeat when fourth in a Listed Sandown 'bumper' last March and could be the danger if adapting to this new discipline.
This could well develop into a test of finishing speed, which is likely to be in Aohna's favour, though Silver Kate was the better of the pair in bumpers. A Haon A Do looks best of the rest.

MISTER WATZISNAME has not been sighted since taking a fall at the last when coming off second best in a duel with Isn't That Lucky at Stratford last March. The form of that race received a boost when the winner chased home Chapoturgeon in the highly competitive Jewson handicap chase at the Cheltenham Festival so it might be worth siding with the Longsdon runner here. House Of Bourbon showed his liking for this track when second over hurdles here in August and rates a danger while Beautiful Vision is another to consider.
Five of these are closely matched on their form over fences but all have a question to answer on one subject or another. The trip in the case of Riddleofthesands, but he's selected nonetheless ahead of Beautiful Vision and Calusa Caldera.

Balthazar King is knocking on the door and cannot be left out of calculations while similar comments apply to Mac Halen. Plumpton 'bumper' winner Brennanstown looks an interesting newcomer to hurdling, but it might be worth taking a chance on UFFA FOX. Ben De Haan's representative, a winner of a Grade 2 NH Flat race at Ascot in 2007, has yet to really fire over hurdles but his staying on fourth over two miles at Worcester last month suggests that he could improve now stepped up to this trip for the first time.
Balthazar King should go close but he's had plenty of chances already and it's probably wise to look for something less exposed. Lamboro Lad will do, with the longer trip expected to suit on his hurdling debut. No More Whispers is promising after his second in an Irish point.

Sambulando proved a useful performer over hurdles for Tom George last term, winning his last two starts and looks an intriguing newcomer to fences. Manorson is a useful sort and is respected despite an absence of nearly a year while Cortinas (engaged at Bangor yesterday) has claims but is becoming hard to win with. Preference is for HIDE THE EVIDENCE, formerly a smart novice hurdler when trained in Ireland. Victor Dartnall's charge could make no impression when highly-tried on his chasing debut at Kempton last year but this less demanding and he could take the beating if he has been coaxed back to his best.
Hide The Evidence and Manorson were both useful over hurdles at one time, but in both cases it was a good while ago now, and that fact Sambulando has been doing his winning a lot more recently is enough reason to go with him.

Treaty Flyer showed herself to be on an upward trajectory when winning a competitive race at Market Rasen last month but she lost out to Dancewiththedevil at Stratford earlier that month and her subsequent progress ensures that she meets that rival on 9lbs worse terms now. Both might, however, have to give best to SPANISH CONQUEST. The selection had the look of a progressive performer over hurdles last season, gets on well with today's rider and warmed up for this assignment with a respectable run on the Flat at Warwick last month.
Most of the field have strung together good runs in the last year or so. The handicapper has probably caught up with the majority now, but that might not be the case with Dancewiththedevil and Spanish Conquest. The latter is just preferred, with Oldrik perhaps up to sneaking a place.

SCHOLAR KING is fancied to oblige for the home team here. It is a concern that Evan Williams' charge has hit the deck on both of his starts over fences, but he looked set to mount a bold challenge until tipping up at the third last at Fontwell earlier this month and is open to further improvement. Particle posted a career best over fences when bustling up Shammy Buskins at Plumpton latest and is respected while last-time-out Worcester winner Kavi cannot be ruled out.
This won't take much winning. Illogical Hope has won his only race over this sort of trip and, if returning in the same form, could prove too strong for Particle and Kavi.

Irish challenger Island Oscar hit the crossbar at Newton Abbot last month and is placed on the short-list along with Honourable Dreamer, a close fourth on his racecourse bow at Kempton in the spring. A Nun With A Gun, engaged at Chepstow on Saturday, cut out the running when third here in August and appears to be progressing with experience. It might, however, pay to take a chance on newcomer CRESSWELL PRIDE who can call upon the assistance of Richard Johnson and represents the yard which landed the 'bumper' with another newcomer at the August meeting.
Even those who've made the frame in bumpers haven't set the pulse racing, A Nun With A Gun for one shaping as though more of a test will suit, and it could be that Just One Thing will prove a cut above the rest on his debut in this sphere. Knar Mardy is her stable's first runner since its imposed exile and could start to fulfil her potential.
