All eyes will be on the Supreme Novices' Hurdle winner AL FEROF as he makes his debut over the bigger obstacles. Paul Nicholls' six-year-old has proved a top performer in bumpers and over timber and a similar career beckons in this discipline. The danger looks to be Lancetto, who is stepping up in class but has won both his starts to date over fences. Bellvano, a winner at Punchestown, and Toubab, second here last month, look useful recruits to the chasing game and also could take a hand in the finish.

In a fascinating contest, slight preference is for WEST WITH THE WIND, only out of the first three once in ten starts over fences and a six-time winner. He comes here chasing a hat-trick after a Grade 3 success over Loosen My Load at Limerick last month. Woolcombe Folly, a Grade 2 novice chase winner, landed a hat-trick over fences last year but has yet to recapture that form this term, while Gauvain, another prolific sort who took this pot 12 months ago, has been running at the highest level but without really threatening. Chaninbar has some attitude problems but, if he consents to start, could prove a serious threat to all.

Picking the winner of this cavalry charge won't be easy but it could pay to side with Irish raider MOON DICE. The six-year-old lost his way somewhat last year but is back at his best now, winning both starts this season including the Galway Hurdle last time and, although he has plenty of weight, is worth following while in the mood. The main danger looks to be Pateese, who won well enough at Sandown this month to suggest he can defy a 5lb penalty. Chances could also be given to Sanctuaire, Jack Cool, A Media Luz and Ultimate.

The latest renewal of what is typically a highly-competitive handicap perhaps lacks some of the star quality of recent seasons, but progressive sorts still abound, with Pateese and Moon Dice in particular sure to be very popular. At the likely prices, however, Olofi makes a bit more appeal.

It's possibly worth taking a chance on the lightly-raced PERPETUALLY. A useful sort on the Flat, he's only run twice over timber but has scored both times more easily than the winning distances would suggest. He tackles a handicap for the first time off a very generous mark and looks open to further improvement. Rangitoto broke his duck over timber at Chepstow on his third start under Rules and could pose a big threat if fully wound up after a seven-month break. Pride In Battle and Gamede have shown enough ability to come into the reckoning.

Watch out for: Rangitoto (14)

A highly competitive affair but Rangitoto appears to be starting out in handicaps off a good mark and is given the nod. Tenor Nivernais and Perpetually head a long list of potential dangers.

Grandads Horse has won four on the trot over timber and looked more impressive each time but takes a big step up in class today and has a bit more to find. Newbury bumper winner African Broadway opened his hurdling campaign with an impressive win at Chepstow last month. He, too, has much more on his plate, but must be considered. Preference, however, is for the unbeaten FINGAL BAY, who scored in this grade at Chepstow last month on his hurdling debut. He never looked troubled that day and is difficult to oppose with the promise of much more to come.

Fingal Bay is a very exciting prospect and holds every chance of defending his unbeaten record having already won at this level last month. African Broadway is another whose colours have yet to be lowered and won't go down without a fight together with the progressive Grandads Horse in his bid for a 5-timer.
