Champion Bumper third RASHARROW could not have made a better introduction to hurdling last month, winning pretty much as he liked over 2m at Kelso. Len Lungo's charge looks to have a bright future over obstacles and should be tough to beat today. Funny Times is another that showed plenty to write home about in NH Flat events and can give the selection something to think about on his hurdling bow, along with Oddsmaker.
Artic Lagoon will strip fitter for a recent spin over hurdles and has to be given leading claims on his comfortable victory in a 3m1f chase at Hexham in May. It could be worth taking a chance on SILVER JACK, however, as he steps up in trip after doing all his best work at the finish when third on his chasing bow over 2m. Fountain Brig was beginning to find his feet over fences before his summer break and can't be ruled out on his reappearance.
GOOD INVESTMENT stayed on strongly to score at the main expense of Bawraah over 2m2f at Kelso latest. A 6lb swing in favour of the latter could make things closer this afternoon but Patrick Haslam's charge should relish this longer trip and can frank the form for a double. Fearless Foursome improved to make the frame when stepped up to 3m3f last time out but found it a little too far and should be suited by this trip.
MONET'S GARDEN landed a brace of Grade 2 events over hurdles last season, including his final start of the campaign at Aintree, and is hard to oppose on his eagerly-awaited debut over fences. Darkness appeals as the one to take advantage if the selection under performs, and his bloodless victory at Uttoxeter last month indicates there are plenty more races to be won with him.
TOPANBERRY was eased to an eight-length success over 2m5f at Uttoxeter on his latest start in June and could be the one to beat if not inconvenienced by his subsequent five month absence and soft ground. Strong Resolve reverts to hurdling on a 38lb lower mark than he's rated over fences and could take advantage, while Caesar's Palace claimed second over 2m7f at Haydock last month and could take a hand in the finish again.
ENCORE CADOUDAL has not been seen since finishing second at Wetherby in early May, but ran a fine second at Sedgefield in April following a similar break, so could be ready to fire on his return. Jeferititi appeared to find the fast ground against him at Carlisle latest, but may be seen in a better light back on a softer surface, while Jallastep has done little wrong this term and could again be on the premises.
Alan Swinbank is enjoying a good year and Programme Girl is likely to give a good account, but MODICUM is slightly preferred. A 35,000 gns son of Chester House out of US Grade 1 middle-distance winner Wandesta, Nicky Richards' inmate is bred to appreciate a trip and may just have the edge. Burnt Oak is related to a couple of useful middle-distance performers and could reach the frame.
