All eyes with be on MILLE CHIEF on his belated return. He would have been a warm order for last season's Triumph Hurdle but for suffering a small stress fracture on the top of his cannon and Alan King is sure to have one of his leading lights fit and ready for his return to action. Both wins last season came on similar tracks (Kempton and Huntingdon) and a rating of 136 doesn't look at all bad for a potential Graded winner. Westlin' Winds was just over two lengths behind the selection when they met at Kempton last year and he has the benefit of a recent run, while Nearby bolted up off a 10lb higher market at Bangor latest and cannot be overlooked.
A lop-sided handicap in which it will probably pay to concentrate on the classier types at the top of the weights. Mille Chief came to hurdles with a very tall reputation last season, and he can start making up for lost time from a mark which could well underplay his ability by some way. Westlin' Winds came back recently with a good effort, and should be thereabouts along with Nearby.

Howard Johnson was responsible for the winner of this race 12 months ago and appears to have another fantastic chance with FORTYSECOND STREET today. This son of Flemensfirth was progressing nicely over fences before looking out of his depth in Grade 2 company at Ayr last time and his stable have been amongst the winners recently. He won readily at Doncaster (a similar track to this) on his penultimate outing and a repeat performance would make him tough to beat. Sedgefield winner Big Burrows is a big stuffy horse and is likely to come on for the run so Its Crucial rates the biggest threat for Nigel Twiston-Davies, who won this race in both 2007 and 2008.
This track suits front runners and, despite an 8 lb rise, Safari Adventures can follow up his C&D win when last seen in June. Russian Flag and Fortysecond Street appear the main threats.

It would be fantastic to see Nicky Richards' loveable grey, Monet's Garden, add to his 2007 and 2009 victories in this race but, at nine years of age, ALBERTAS RUN looks better than ever and he will be fancied to land the spoils. The Trevor Hemmings-owned gelding backed up a victory in last season's Grade 1 Ryanair Chase by landing the Melling Chase here in April (Monet's Garden third, Tartak fourth) and he looks more than capable of shouldering top weight this afternoon. Poquelin has won first time out on his last two campaigns and warrants respect, while Tartak must run a lot better than he did in the race last year (trailing home last) and I'msingingtheblues is certainly no forlorn hope on his first outing for the David Pipe stable. Ferdy Murphy's Watch My Back is likely to struggle from out of the handicap.
Tartak is handicapped to win if at his peak, but was a disappointment when fancied for this last year, and it may be worth siding with the veteran Monet's Garden, who was as good as ever last season and is bidding for a third win in the race. Albertas Run and Poquelin have both gone well fresh in the past and also enter the reckoning.

It could pay to side with apparent improver REY NACARADO in what looks a wide open contest. Charlie Longsdon's gelding didn't have to come out of second gear to strike over 3m2f at Huntingdon almost three weeks ago (second has won a chase since) and, entitled to strip fitter for that first run since April, he might be able to defy a 15lb hike in the handicap. The hat-trick seeking Identity Parade has useful amateur rider Joshua Hamer taking a handy 7lb off her back first time in handicap company and should feature while Court Red Handed, Bescot Springs and You Know Yourself are others to consider in what looks a 'minimum stakes' race.
Such was the manner in which the unexposed Rey Nacarado destroyed the opposition at Huntingdon earlier in month, he could well be up to defying a 15 lb rise with his stable in excellent form. Lost Glory and Daring Origyn are just 2 of a number of potential threats.

Our Jasper is entitled to strip fitter for his second at Ludlow just over two weeks ago (first run since September last year) and should mount a bold bid with blinkers reapplied today, but CHARACTER BUILDING looks sure to take all the beating. Rock Noir wasn't disgraced when bumping into an on-song Cockney Trucker on his chasing debut at Huntingdon recently but Jonjo O'Neill's Grade 1-winning hurdler may have to settle for second again with MEDERMIT in opposition today. Alan King's charge developed into a high-class hurdler last season, beating Punjabi in a Grade 2 at Haydock in January, and has the class to go a long way in this sphere if taking to the larger obstacles. Wessex King is preferred to Alaskan Prince, but they both have a mountain to climb.
Medermit looks a very exciting recruit to fences and should be able to win this if his jumping passes muster. Rock Noir is a danger on his French hurdles form, but hasn't convinced on either start for Jonjo O'Neill, so Wessex King is perhaps a better bet for the forecast.

He has his sights lowered on his seasonal bow and can take full advantage. Jonjo O'Neill has won three of the past six renewals of this maiden and saddles Barrie Burn and newcomer Well Hello There, while the expensively-bought bumper winner Mediolanum is another to monitor closely in the betting.
Useful bumper recruits Mediolanum and Scoter Fontaine add spice to the mix and are both likely to play a leading role. However, previously disqualified novice winner Ballybriggan sets a high standard on his C&D fifth in a hot handicap in April and will be tough to beat. Dhaular Dhar is another that shouldn't be taken too lightly, either.
