Kevin Ryan has another busy week ahead of him, with a strong squad entered up and ready to stake their claims at York’s May meeting.
Pride of place could well go to Inisherin, who is set to make his eagerly awaited return in the Group 2 Duke Of York Clipper Stakes on the Knavesmire this Wednesday. Owned by Sheikh Obaid, the Shamardal colt showed his pretensions as a possible champion sprinter when slamming Lake Forest by two and a quarter lengths in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot last June, though things haven’t quite gone to plan in two efforts since.
His rapidly-rising trajectory last season may have been a case of too much too soon for a colt that was only having his third start when running in the 2000 Guineas, but he could well come back a more finished article this season after a long winter break, reportedly having “done well physically”.
There are plenty of others on the York agenda from the Hambleton Lodge team, with Adam Ryan - assistant to his father - kindly going through the mainstay of their outfit with Tony Elves of attheraces.com.
