Harry Eustace has made steady progress in his three seasons with a trainer’s licence, now at Highfield Stables in Newmarket’s Bury Road and his 26 winners and £429,750 in prize money in 2023 was spiced up by the victory of Docklands in the Britannia Handicap at Royal Ascot last June.
Docklands, a winner twice and a solid third in the Balmoral Handicap on Champions Day, is back for more this term and heads to Ascot on May 1 for the Queen Anne Trial and could be joined on the card by Chasing Aphrodite who won the Apprentice Handicap last year.
Sir Les Patterson is another who could be looking to star on the Royal Ascot menu in June with a tilt at the Jersey Stakes but this emerging talent could well take his chance in the German 2000 Guineas before his attentions are focused on that aforementioned target.
Bill Silvers made a promising reappearance when fifth in the Spring Cup at Newbury on Saturday and looks set for a decent season while Kingmont is another who could well have a lot more to offer in the fullness of time.
The Eustace runners that have run have acquitted themselves well and it looks odds-on Harry could well hit another Personal Best in 2024.Eustace said: “I think in the main the handicappers just need the run a bit but they all shape like they can win races and come home looking like they have improved. Hopefully, we are set for an ok season; as long as we have more winners and prize money, we will just keep doing what we are doing.”
Here, Eustace kindly spoke to Tony Elves for attheraces.com about his prospects for the season ahead.
