CHEWOREE showed a likeable attitude to win on her seasonal reappearance at Windsor last month and a 4lb rise in the ratings could prove to be a rare slice of leniency from the assessor. The mare handles any ground, remains open to stacks of improvement and has the services of Paul Hanagan this afternoon. The returning Dinkum Diamond makes plenty of appeal towards the other end of the weights as he's used to mixing in Pattern company, while Dungannon, Mister Manannan, Bedloe's Island and Stone Of Folca also deserve respect.

Recent Longchamp fourth Dalkala looks a major threat to all based on the pick of her 2012 form, but STARSCOPE could take advantage of the 2lb she receives from the French challenger. Sir Michael Stoute's filly failed to hit the target in five starts during her Classic campaign but she ran several fine races in defeat, including at the highest level, and this looks a decent starting point for her. Ladys First knows what is required here and Emirates Queen also has some valuable course form.

Watch out for: Dalkala (1)

Dalkala and Starscope have the best form, but the former has to give weight away on ground likely to prove faster than what she has run on before, while the latter has something to prove after throwing in the towel when last seen in July, so the value may lie with Ladys First, who may still have more to offer on her first attempt at this trip.

Aidan O'Brien has been cleaning up in the Derby trials in recent weeks and INDIAN CHIEF is fancied to enhance his claims for the big one here. The son of Montjeu stepped up on his promising debut performance when readily brushing aside the opposition in a Leopardstown maiden 31 days ago (runner-up has won since) and further improvement is expected. There was only half-a-length splitting Windhoek, Greatwood and Ghurair when that trio met in the Tattersalls Millions 3-Y-O Trophy at Newmarket last month and they could be closely matched again, while Trading Leather and Secret Number make up the ingredients for a cracking renewal.

Plenty of potential on show as expected for a race of this nature, with 5 of the 8 runners entered for the Derby. FORT BASTION could prove a cut above these rivals. Although facing no easy task shouldering top-weight on his first outing since May last year, the facts are that he boasts solid placed form in Group 3 company at this track (the 2011 Acomb Stakes) and has run well fresh in the past. He really needs to be winning this if taking up his entry in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot next month. Each of David O'Meara's three runners, Two For Two, Anderiego and Set The Tend, all have chances, but Sound Hearts rates the bigger threat on her seasonal bow.

Morawij drops out of Listed/Group company for the first time since winning his maiden at Haydock 12 months ago and commands respect, while Cosmic Chatter looked very green and babyish during his juvenile campaign and it will be interesting to see if he has improved for a winter break. The vote, however, goes to POLSKI MAX, who is on something of a roll at the moment. He had a couple of these in behind (Lucky Beggar second and Smoothtalkinrascal third) when cosily landing a conditions race at Hamilton last time and could strike again today while the iron is hot.

Tanseeb sets the standard of those with previous experience and could figure prominently if stepping forward from his Musselburgh second, but a chance is taken on one of Tim Easterby's newcomers, SOUL BROTHER. The son of Captain Rio is certainly bred to have plenty of ability, being a full brother to last season's Two-Year-Old Trophy winner Body And Soul, and is sure to be fairly wound up for his first public appearance. Exceed And Exceed, Dream And Search, Humour and Parbold are others worthy of consideration.
