Hot Pursuits has the highest official rating of those who have already obtained a mark but that could be slightly misleading and, whilst she is respected, it could pay to side with YOUNG SIMON, who improved markedly on his debut performance with a solid runner-up effort at Yarmouth over 6f in August. Papageno, Bronze Beau and Pinnacle Lad are all respected as is Richard Hannon's Adventure Story who is entitled to improve for his debut experience.
A dreadful-looking maiden for the track. Richard Hannon's strike rate with his juveniles here this season is almost 1 in 4 and he could be set for another victory with Adventure Story. Gooseberry Bush is unlikely to be far away if repeating the form of her Ascot run, the front-running Pinnacle Lad another to consider.

ESTEEM MACHINE has a few pounds in hand of these rivals on official ratings and, if he can reproduce anything like his best form, he will take all the beating here. Kingswinford is consistent and could provide the main danger but there are others who also merit consideration including Mango Music, Desert Strike and Richard Hannon's Retro who has been struggling this year but drops to claiming company for the first time.
Especially Special showed up well for a fair way over 7f last time and this lightly-raced sort could get back to winning ways now dropped in trip/class. Esteem Machine would have obvious claims if bouncing back from some below-par efforts, while the consistent Kingswinford could get involved also.

POPPY N'PENNY was far from disgraced in a valuable sales race, won by Shamandar, over 7f at Ascot last month and could yet prove better than her current mark of 69 so she edges the call here. Greek Key was unlucky in running at Warwick last month and could fare better with a clearer passage today. Any betting market support behind John Best's handicap debutante Phoenix Rose would make her of interest.
This looks a good opportunity for Poppy N'Penny to get off the mark, having been thrown to the lions in a red-hot race at Ascot last time. Masked Dance and Reach For The Sky may offer most resistance.

The Fifth Member shaped encouragingly over a mile at Goodwood last week on his return from a break but there are stamina doubts hanging over him at this trip. If he stays he has leading claims but ORDONEY has proven form over this trip and is progressive so he is narrowly preferred. Rocky's Pride did not take to hurdling but had previously won a Brighton maiden in good style, when trained by Jeremy Noseda, and makes plenty of appeal on his first run for Gary Moore.
Ordoney looks just the type his canny trainer will keep squeezing improvement out of and he can land this competitive handicap. Rocky's Pride may have more to offer on the level for another new trainer following his hurdles flop last time, and could prove a danger with the reliable Can Can Star.

SAPPHIRE PRINCE got the better of Compton Blue over this C&D earlier this month and, although Richard Hannon's representative has a 1lb pull today, John Best's charge might be open to more improvement and is taken to come out on top once more. The most interesting runner in the line-up is AESTIVAL, a son of Falbrav, who achieved his mark of 53 in maidens over 5f and 6f last year and could prove capable of much better now tackling this longer trip on his handicap debut. Clive Cox's handicap debutant Catchmeifyoucan also merits consideration along with Aine's Delight, who is now only 1lb higher than when scoring at Salisbury back in June.
This doesn't look as competitive as the numbers suggest and it could prove an ideal starting point to life in handicaps for Aestival, his shrewd trainer presumably having a sequence in mind judging by his upcoming entries. My Girl Jode and Jewelled Reef may prove to be the biggest dangers.
