SONORAN SANDS belied fears over the soft ground to open his account in good style at Huntingdon earlier this month and the Brendan Powell-trained juvenile looks one to follow on that evidence, especially in receipt of weight from his elders this afternoon. Chance Encounter was put in his place by an impressive winner on his hurdling debut here but beat the rest well enough, while Turbo Du Ranch has displayed a solid level of form so far and could appreciate the return to 2m.
Sonoran Sands is going the right way over hurdles and can follow up his recent Huntingdon win. Turbo du Ranch looks his biggest danger, ahead of Chance Encounter and Maher.

A tightly-knit contest that could go the way of top-weight EDLOMOND. He unseated rider on his chasing debut at Taunton but put that experience behind him with an encouraging second at Stratford less than a fortnight ago. He really looked to be warming to the task come the end of that race and further improvement is anticipated. Moscow Chancer drops back from 2m5f and looks sure to be off the mark before too long, with Great Kicker probably the pick of the remainder.
Barton Cliche may prove better over further in time, but there was enough in his chase debut second to suggest he could take this. Edlomond and Great Kicker are another pair to have posted career-best efforts most recently, and are worthy of respect.

FIVE OUT OF FIVE won on his second start after a winter break last year and could be set to repeat the feat. Ridden patiently at Fakenham earlier this month, he shaped really well running on for second and the assessor may have been too hasty in dropping him 3lb in the weights, especially if reverting to more positive tactics on this occasion. Cesium is holding his form but has gone up 3lb following his latest good effort in defeat, which may leave American Cricket as the principal threat to the selection.
Just the 4-runners but a case can be made for each. Narrow preference is for Rustarix in the hope that the fitting of cheekpieces can spark a revival. Five Out of Five may be the one to follow him home.

PERPETUALLY can regain the winning thread here having been kept away from the deep winter ground since finishing an excellent third on his handicap hurdle debut over a similar trip at Cheltenham in November. A 4lb higher mark will not be easy to overcome but John Ferguson's classy Flat recruit could still have something in hand if progressing as expected. Revani and the hat-trick seeking Themilanhorse could give the selection most to worry about.
Themilanhorse is improving over hurdles and looks to have a sound chance of completing the hat-trick. Revani and Perpetually are others to consider.

DOURYNA is still 14lb higher in the ratings than for her sole career success which came at Huntingdon last March, but her recent Taunton third, when beaten only half a length, showed she's not handicapped out of matters and she could take some catching in this small field if allowed to dictate. Daneva bounced back from a couple of moderate efforts to take second at Newton Abbot but isn't guaranteed to build on that, while Gee Dee Nen has become really well treated but seems to have lost his way.
Daneva and Douryna are both capable of going well off their current marks, but a chance is taken on Jacks Grey who ran well for a long way in a stronger race than this last time and should appreciate the return to this shorter trip.

This can go the way of POLISKY, who is champion trainer Paul Nicholls' sole representative on the card. He has already had six unsuccessful attempts over hurdles but placed form behind Sprinter Sacre at Ascot and Fingal Bay at Cheltenham reads exceptionally well in the context of this event and it would be no surprise to see him get off the mark in style. Point-to-point winners Imperial Vic and Minella King are worth considering in opposition, but they may be left fighting for minor money.
Polisky has to put 2 poor runs behind him, but he's hard to oppose in this company and the return to faster ground will suit. Liam Corcoran's pair Minella King and Imperial Vic can fill the places.
