Venn Ottery tries his hand at hurdles today but he has shown little over the smaller obstacles before and he can be opposed today. Lamp's Return ruined her chances by pulling too hard last time but she can be given a chance on her two efforts prior to that. The one with the best hurdling form is Allumee and he should appreciate this drop in class after running against some decent types recently. He is yet to get his head in front though and he can be taken on with dual bumper winner EARTH MAN. Paul Nicholls' gelding was a Grade 2 winner earlier in the season and is sure to have been well schooled for this first attempt over hurdles, he also has the assistance of Tony McCoy and can make a winning start over obstacles.

LE JAGUAR is likely to be a short price here but the reason is that his few rivals have shown little form so far. He has run some decent races over fences with a reproduction of any one of them probably being sufficient to take this, especially as he receives weight all round here. For those backing the forecast it is probably best to side with The Real Boss, he seems to have trouble getting over his fences but his yard is in form and he can take second if standing up.

Lord Lington was disappointing last time but would have a chance if running up to the level that saw him finish second the time before. One that saves his best performances for this track is Berengario but he is 10lb higher than his last winning mark and may have to settle for a place today. The one to take him on with is the lightly weighted FAST KING. It's a long time since he got his head in front but he came closer than he had for a long time when a length behind Wenger in third on his latest outing and can perhaps get on top now.

Barton Hill has been performing at a consistent level recently but his latest win in novice company has moved him up another 5lb in the ratings and he may struggle to overcome that rise here. Brooklands Lad is one possible alternative but he arguably faces a difficult task as well as running from 4lb out the handicap. The one to take them on with is NAGANO, who has been running in slightly better class races lately, and performing with credit. His 7-length win back in December was his best performance and he can return to that level today.

The recent second place produced by the top weight General Grey is nothing to get excited about, but neither is much of the form on offer here and he has to be given a chance of going close today. Preference though is for ROSCHAL who also finished second last time out on his return to hurdling and he can take advantage of this mark that is lower than the one he has when racing over fences.
