Individual Race Printouts

Avel Vor is consistent and the handicapper has given him another chance off 109, while When Ben When makes his handicap debut for a shrewd stable and is noted under a 7lb conditional rider. SHADY LANE's first career success at Fakenham may have been the making of her, though, as she exploited 9lb lower with any amount in hand that day and clearly appreciated the switch back to hurdling. The first-time tongue tie and hood had the desired effect and another bold showing looks assured.

Both Tony Carroll and Nick Williams launch a two-pronged assaults at this handicap and it could pay to side with GREYWELL BOY, aboard whom the jockey booking of Sam Twiston-Davies screams confidence. He can build on his latest Haydock third and score at the expense of Great Link and Le Bacardy.

DEPUTY DAN must concede weight to these rivals, but the son of Westerner is the class horse in the race and is fancied to put on a show. Oliver Sherwood's charge looked an out-and-out stayer when winning the Grade 2 Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle on this card 12 months ago and proved that success to be no fluke when finishing runner-up to Very Wood in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham subsequently. He's had a mixed start to his career over fences, but beat a good yardstick in Far West at Plumpton in November and the step up in distance is taken to bring about more improvement. It's A Steal is quickly turning into a smart chaser in the making and is noted along with Tara Road.

SEGO SUCCESS looked a potentially smart novice when accounting for the talented If In Doubt at Wetherby last time and makes the most appeal, but there are plenty of possible dangers, headed by the highly progressive It's A Steal, who bolted up in a couple of handicaps last month, and Deputy Dan, who remains a good prospect despite a couple of setbacks last month.

The hat-trick seeking CLOSING CEREMONY looks the most solid option after defying a 5lb rise to score at Haydock for a second successive time. The Flemensfirth gelding shoulders another 6lb here which will surely test his mettle, particularly with Big Hands Harry in the line up. The last named ran too bad to be true over fences at Chepstow, but did win a competitive event in that code before that and remains unexposed over timber. Handazan got back to winning ways at Bangor and might have more to offer with his confidence boosted, while Top Wood deserves closer market inspection on his return.

SHANTOU BOB looks to be improving all the time and is extremely difficult to oppose. The seven-year-old built on a trio of victories when a head second in Grade 2 company at Sandown (form which looks rock-solid with the winner since touched off in the Challow Hurdle and third winning a Listed event) and he might not need to progress any further to beat unproven rivals. 300,000 pound purchase Alisier D'irlande wasn't without promise on his debut at Ascot and he is clearly held in high regard, while Hexham scorer Red Tortue rates a lively outsider on his first outing for Charlie Longsdon.

RETURN SPRING was far from disgraced behind the exciting Kings Palace at Cheltenham but a test of stamina in the mud is really what he wants and he gets his optimum conditions here. His relative lack of experience is a slight concern, but Shotgun Paddy was a novice when he won this 12 months ago, although he returns to defend his crown on the back of an unhappy time in the Welsh National. Rigadin De Beauchene and West End Rocker are other previous winners of this race, while Theatrical Star fought off Global Power at Fontwell before getting rid of Brendan Powell at Cheltenham on New Year's Day.

RETURN SPRING has made a good start to his chasing career and looks the type to really come into his own now stepped up to this sort of trip. He gets the nod with Global Power, who was just edged out by Theatrical Star at Fontwell last month, and recent Doncaster winner Sixty Something a couple of each-way alternatives. Hawkes Point is another to consider sporting blinkers from a reduced mark.
