TOBY LERONE pulled up when stepped up in grade and sent over the larger obstacles at Haydock last time but an improved performance is anticipated now returned to the same C&D he landed a novices' hurdle over last month. Brod Na Heireann makes some appeal on his maiden fourth at Stratford on his penultimate outing and is considered the main danger ahead of Zephyros Bleu, who finished a distant third on his hurdles bow at Uttoxeter.

SMART EXIT struck over C&D in January last year when registering the second of his three career victories. He's progressed over a stone in the ratings since and his latest performance, when second at Chepstow over an extended 2m7f, suggested he's not finished improving yet. Georgian King, 11 lengths adrift of the selection latest, is similarly proven under these conditions and can battle it out with recent Wincanton second Market Option for the silver medal.

Also tackling timber for the first time are recent Southwell bumper second Give Him A Glance and Irish recruit Que Sera, who debuts for Philip Hobbs. CARHUE PRINCESS saves her best for this track and she is 2lb below her last winning mark. She deserves a chance, but Riddlestown is only reluctantly passed over as he successfully switched to hurdles at Southwell earlier this month and was a good runner-up over fences the time before that. Petit Ecuyer was a solid runner-up at Plumpton on Monday, and perhaps a return to this venue can prompt an improved performance from Monty's Revenge.

Watch out for: Riddlestown (2)

BALLYEGAN is a fairly consistent type and shaped better than the distance beaten at Taunton last time, so he makes most appeal in a tricky event now 2 Ib below his last winning mark. Riddlestown was a good winner over hurdles last time and commands respect back over fences, while Petit Ecuyer is another to consider.

Alan King took this prize last year and his CAJUN FIDDLE has to enter calculations after finishing an encouraging second at Wetherby on debut. She should improve for that experience, but a similar case can be made for Postbridge, who finished runner-up on her first outing at Fakenham and represents a yard in excellent nick. Miss Giselle probably faced an impossible task when bumping into The Nipper at Bangor and any market support behind the point winner Sweetlittlekitty might be worth noting.
