In a competitive listed race, the fact LAYL won first time out last season tips the balance in his favour, added to which the stable is red-hot right now. Gold City finished a place ahead of him once in the last campaign and rates as the danger, while Le Bernardin has equal ability but may prefer a longer trip these days.
Plenty of known quantities here, so the unexposed element to PIEPOWDER COURT makes him appealing, more so with Richard Mullen now taking over. His latest third at Al Ain is as good as most have got in form terms, and he was narrowly in front of Rich And Righteous, another potential improver. Piepowder Court's stablemate, Carbon Dating, is likely to be all the better for his recent UAE debut.
Having twice won after an absence, STORM BELT's readiness can be taken on trust, particularly with the yard going so well, and this looks a good opportunity for him to regain the progressive thread that took him all the way to Group 1 company last season. The fact he's up and running counts for something with Jeeraan, the choice of Hanagan over Haatheq, and the same goes for the classy Farrier.
It may be unwise to view MUARRAB as just a Jebel Ali specialist, as he chased home the mighty Reynaldothewizard in a listed race when coming to Meydan last term. An easy reappearance win suggests he's up to the task of giving weight all round here. Indianapolis is a fascinating runner, but more dangerous this day is Cool Cowboy, downgraded from last season. United Color will be sharper this time.
It could pay to chance COLOUR GUARD, who'll be suited by a return to this trip, on top of the likely strong pace. This scenario should also benefit Marching Time, who had been knocking on the door prior to last time when better than the bare result behind Desert Wings. Crowdmania shaped well enough on his return last week to think he's a big player.
