Bold Henry was unlucky to bump into a classy rival last time out when second behind Garde La Victoire, while Bright New Dawn represents a trainer who has claimed this prize the last two years. Dream Bolt and UBALTIQUE look closely matched on form but the latter was mightily impressive last time out and has more experience in this sort of grade. Donald McCain's charge has gone up 7lb for that but he is improving over these obstacles and could be tough to peg back if finding his rhythm.

Although last season's Kingwell Hurdle winner Rayvin Black is more than capable when putting it all together, he has took two heavy beatings recently and could struggle to live with BUVEUR D'AIR and Irving. The latter arguably produced a career-best performance when winning the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle two starts ago and it was a shame that he only managed to get as far as the fourth at Haydock last time. However, the feeling is that he still isn't one to rely on and the fact Paul Nicholls feels the need to reach out for both cheekpieces and a tongue-tie possibly echoes this, so everything points to an easy win for the favourite. The six-year-old was not far off the top novice hurdlers last season, finishing third in the Supreme before winning at Aintree, and he has won two chases with little fuss this term. Connections have recently decided to revert to timber, with the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham next month the main main target, and it will be extremely disappointing if he is unable to sweep aside these rivals.

Clan Des Obeaux looked to have the world at his feet when posting a dominant performance in a Grade 2 at Newbury but that form looks more than questionable and he was firmly put in his place in the Dipper Novices Chase by Whisper at Cheltenham on New Year's Day. Although he receives weight once again, and has a first-time tongue tie, he's worth opposing with his stable companion LE PREZIEN, who has looked to be crying out for a step up in distance despite winning at a decent level over 2m. His jumping took time to warm up at Cheltenham and he looked to have the measure of subsequent Grade 1 winner Some Plan when that rival fell. Top Notch has done little wrong over fences so far and has to be respected along with Baron Alco, who has improved for going chasing and should make this a fair test.

Philip Hobbs and Richard Johnson teamed up to win this 12 months ago with Saddlers Encore and this year they are represented by ROLLING DYLAN, who has taken time to come to hand over timber but his last two efforts have showcased his potential having put up a career best when runner-up behind Shantou Bob at Chepstow on Welsh National day. First-time cheekpieces are an added positive to his chances and he makes solid appeal. Behind Time disappointed at Newbury after a quick turnaround but is respected with the promise of more to come, while Mr Mix and El Terremoto both come here in decent form and cannot be discounted.

OTAGO TRAIL has to carry top weight but he does have a class edge over his rivals, especially if the ground gets to be very testing. He beat some very good rivals, including Bristol De Mai and Definitly Red, in the Rehearsal Chase in November from just 5lb lower and he was not disgraced when second in the Peter Marsh two weeks ago. Antony should still be on a decent mark based on his win at Ascot two starts ago, while Beg To Differ has to be considered after his Welsh National fourth. Loose Chips can never be discounted at this track and Irish Saint is another who can make the frame.

DRUID'S FOLLY looked to stay really well when successful in a novice hurdle at Towcester two starts ago and the drop back in trip caught him out last time. However, that most recent run did suggest that there are races to be won with him when stepped back up in trip. Another Venture is another with valid claims, especially as improvement can be expected from this lightly-raced gelding. Justification had been off the track for a long time prior to his run at Plumpton last month and it would be no surprise if he proved to be better than his mark.
