FORSETI really caught the eye when he finished fourth in what appears to be a strong novice event at Newbury a couple of weeks ago. The son of Charm Spirit was very green on that occasion and the form has already been boosted with the fifth winning subsequently. If he can put in a more professional performance today then Andrew Balding's colt should be hard to beat. Dirty Rascal and Dombra are others who have already shown promise on the racecourse and they are also entitled to improve. The most interesting newcomer is Motafaawit, who is a half-brother to the Group 3 and Listed-winning juvenile Tajaanus. Nayef Road is by Galileo and is out of a high-class mare, while Momkin is from the family of Invincible Spirit and Kodiac.

Its The Only Way has been highly tried since winning his first two starts but, while he can be expected to go well, he may find some of these too good. Oberyn Martell confirmed the promise he displayed on debut by winning a decent event at Sandown 12 days ago and he has to be given the utmost respect today. That said, the nod goes to QUEEN SHAAHD, who was less than a length behind the subsequent Queen Mary winner Signora Cabello on her debut at Bath. Based on that evidence her next effort at Newmarket was a bit disappointing at the time but all three horses who finished in front of her on that occasion went to Royal Ascot last week and none of them finished worse than sixth.

Power of Darkness has improved with every start to date and he was a decisive winner over 7f here a couple of weeks ago. The only concern about his chances is that an opening mark of 84 is not overly generous and with that in mind, the nod goes to GEORGE. Sylvester Kirk's gelding clearly didn't stay 1m2f in a valuable event at Epsom two starts ago but made a winning return to this trip at Goodwood next time. A 4lb rise in the ratings for that success is fair and that performance proves that he can handle fast ground. Contrast will find this easier than the three races that he has contested since his Lingfield victory in February, but his best form has been over further than this. Mr Top Hat is another whose form is encouraging but he may be vulnerable off his current rating.

An historic race that has been won by some top-class performers in recent years, including the subsequent St Leger winner Simple Verse in 2015. BURGONET is a really likeable type who has yet to finish outside of the first two in five starts to date. The daughter of Helmet won over 1m2f at this track last time out and that form has been boosted with the second running well since, so Mark Johnston's filly may be underestimate having been raised just 2lb for that success. Mekong is from a family who have a good record in this race, as his dam's half-sister Hi Calypso won it in 2007 and another half-brother was only beaten a neck the following year. This son of Frankel appeared to be a tough galloper when winning over 1m2f on heavy ground in April and that trip appeared to be too short on a faster surface when he was a staying-on seventh in the London Gold Cup last month. Blazing Saddles was not suited by 1m6f on soft last time out but these conditions should be more to his liking, while Drill and Infrastructure are others who make the shortlist.

OKOOL was a one-paced fourth in a competitive handicap over 1m4f at York last month and that effort suggests that he could take plenty of beating this afternoon. The step up in trip is a slight concern but he should see it out and his mark looks workable, especially in a race such as this. Fitzwilly was an impressive winner at Lingfield a couple of weeks ago and the handicapper could have been harder on him for that performance. Mistress Quickly's most recent run suggests that she warrants each-way consideration, while Hawkerland should be monitored in the market.
