This looks an ideal opportunity for START ME UP to break his duck over timber. Three times a winner from four starts in 'bumpers', he has failed to score over hurdles so far but was placed in a Grade 2 race here in January. If he's anywhere near his best, he should take all the beating in this company. Prima Vista has gone close in both his starts over timber and looks the one for the forecast while Bachelor Lad, Mackeys Forge and Ross Limestone might be thereabouts.
With Prima Vista entitled to come on for the run, this represents a very good opportunity for Start Me Up to open his account over hurdles. Mackeys Forge is the pick of the remainder.

It would be a major surprise if this didn't go the way of LUSKA LAD. He found the opposition too strong in a Grade 1 race over 2m 4f here last time but before that, he ran up a hat-trick of Grade 2 successes, form that should see him prove too good for these rivals. Der Spieler, a winner over timber at Killarney last spring, has hardly set the hurdling world alight but he might be the one for the forecast here while Kilbeggan winner Imperial Shabra could make the frame.
This promises to be a one-sided contest as Luska Lad has plenty in hand over his 4 rivals on the figures and shouldn't have any difficulty in making a winning reappearance. Der Spieler and Baron De'l can battle it out for second.

Kayanna's Back romped home by ten lengths at Clonmel last month to break her duck but is raised 16lb in the handicap as a result. The Shepherd looks a little flattered by his form figures but is a useful hurdler and should take a hand in the finish. However, this should go the way of KAISER SO SAY, a very modest 'bumper' horse who destroyed his field when coming home by 11 lengths over 2m 3f at Downpatrick on his hurdling debut. He looks very well treated on his handicap debut and can follow up.
A competitive, open-looking handicap. Kaiser So Say and Kayanna's Back both have to be taken seriously on the back of improved efforts last time, but the signs are that Mutadarek is coming to hand, and he can outpoint that duo. Mister Lucky and Silent Jo are appealing each-way alternatives.

A Grade 2 winner over hurdles, LOOSEN MY LOAD has made the switch to the bigger obstacles in some style, winning both starts to date. This is his toughest task to date over fences but he looks on a steep upward curve and should prove too good for these rivals. Darceys Dancer broke his duck over fences at the third attempt and could be the one for the forecast although he takes a big step-up in class here. Strongpoint is a winner over fences but needs to raise his game at this stepping up in class.
It may be early days in this jumps season but Loosen My Load has already done enough to suggest he can go right to the top of the tree over the larger obstacles, and is a confident selection to take this Grade 3 contest. Darceys Dancer looks next best, with Strongpoint taken to edge out Norther Bay for third.

It's hard to see any of these getting the better of Arkle winner SIZING EUROPE. He picked up two Grade 1 wins in recording a five-timer last season and lost nothing in defeat when third in the Boylesports Champion Chase over 2m here last time. He's never tackled a trip this far but won over 2m 4f last year and looks ready to step up in distance. Grade 2 Gowran winner China Rock should see out the trip and looks the only conceivable danger although Siegemaster could run well if putting his best foot forward.
Sizing Europe represents the best form and his jumping is clearly an asset. However, he's never shaped as if this sort of trip will suit and, at the likely prices, it could be worth siding with China Rock instead, who has the benefit of a recent run under his belt. Siegemaster also warrants respect as this small field is unlikely to place too much pressure on his jumping.

Hot Friend looks well weighted on his best form but is a still a maiden after 23 starts under rules. Ballygill Gale looks reasonably treated and is running well. He wouldn't have too much more to find to land a race like this but preference is for KAITLIN'S FANCY who recorded two good seconds over fences at the end of last season. It's taken her a while to get going this term but she was a good third over 3m at Listowel last month and has little to find to land this.
Of those with solid form over fences Hot Friend makes just about the most appeal ahead of Ballygill Gale, but this doesn't look a strong race and a couple who are lurking lower down the weights are Fine Call and The Fox's Frolic. The former looks well handicapped on hurdles form, and the latter could be the fly in the ointment given his prolific record in points.

With no form to go on, it's best to look at the trainer-jockey statistics and Noel Meade and Nina Carberry are one of the best partnerships around in these races. They are represented here by JOE SMOOTH, who cost connections 90,000 pounds last December, and is worth supporting today. Paddy Mullins is another top 'bumper' pilot and bids to record a first victory for his aunt, Margaret, and any support for her runner, Watchmetail, should be noted. Staying Article and Oscar Hill could also go well.
A bit of guesswork is required in this bumper, with none of the runners having been seen in public before, but Joe Smooth has the best pedigree and represents a yard who regularly have their string in top form early in the season, so he's the selection ahead of Staying Article and Oscar Hill.
