This level represent a career low for SERGEANT KEITH who gets in light with apprentice Edwin Rivera taking the ride. He had a troubled trip when overmatched in a better maiden last time and his run two back for $25,000 gives him sound claims. This is also the easiest competition that Calculate has faced in his five-race career and deserves respect for a high percentage barn. Private Signature tried a longer trip last time and is one to consider for the exacta and trifecta back to sprinting.
LA NINA FRIA and Quick Sale look the pair to concentrate on with slight preference for the former, anticipating a better price. La Nina Fria makes what, on the face of it, is a positive barn switch and reunites with jockey David Cohen who has won on her before. Quick Sale is the likely favourite for Scott Lake who elects to take weight off, booking a hot apprentice. A winner of a dozen races she has proven lately she is no back number. Young and Fabulous seems to be running herself into form.
Those that have run don't look overpowering so first time starter EMBARK is worth chancing for a barn is adept at producing debutants to fire at first asking. Although his dam was a turf horse there is enough dirt in his pedigree to suggest he will be effective on the main track. P. Vee's Thunder plunges in class and races on dirt for the first time is of interest. Snuck Around also drops to a winnable spot although the ability to go this far is open to some question
RIM OF FIRE may not be have ran as fast as these in his two career starts but the ability to stalk off the pace and run his race is often crucial in these types of events as most of this field have their only success by going wire to wire. Pat's Dilemma was one of those all or nothing types but, with the outside draw, jockey Fergal Lynch may have tactical options. Rule of Motion was disappointing in his comeback run but eligible to rebound and note he will race in blinkers for the first time.
THANKS DUBYA loves to win races as ten career victories testifies to. This assignment is tougher than beating three rivals at The Meadowlands last time but his high percentage trainer is in the form of his life and the hat trick is a fair possibility. Chase for the Gold is put back on the main track and dropped in distance by new connections and he could be a late threat. Bailey's Mountain also tries sprinting again first time off a claim for one of the top barns on the grounds.
Many ways to go here and slight preference is for the lightly-raced CHEROKEE LAW who has looked a new horse since blinkers were added. With only four career starts he may not have stopped improving yet. Running Hot is getting better and draws nicely for his stalking racing style. Square One looked another progressive type until trying a route race last time. He could bounce back to form.
With little speed here it should be STALWART WOODSMAN'S race to lose at a short price. He does go up in class for a hat-trick bid but faces no monsters in this field. Travinator put in a way below par effort on a wet track last time. He is a factor here especially on a fast surface. Bold Desperado is another seeking a hat trick and is worth considering for the exacta at very least.
JOEY CARSON put in a poor effort last time in open company at Suffolk Downs. Expect a rebound effort against his fellow state-breds from just off the pace. Whistle Pig is a real seven specialist and may reverse a couple of decisions with Night Stand with extra ground to cover. Night Stand has been a revelation of late but has possible pace partners and extra distance to cope with. This could look a different race with scratchings and connections of speed horses would prefer Secretintelligence not to turn up
BOW OUT takes a significant drop is class here for his second start off a lay off. He is 'claim bait' to an extent but has run at this level in the past and the booking of a top local jockey suggests it is all systems go. Even Par is a nice fit on class and can stalk what might be a hot pace. The move via the claim box from a good barn to an average one is a concern. El Frio is an old pro who knows how to win. The faster they go early, the better the chances for this deep closer.
