Verdict

ORMELLO has won three of his 26 races and each of those successes have been achieved over fences, but there is no obvious reason why he cannot take advantage of a favourable-looking weight in this novices' hurdle. He bumped into a couple of useful sorts when third to Middleton Dene and Pigeon Island on his most recent foray over the smaller obstacles (here last August) when he tired in the soft ground after going clear three out. Regent's Secret beat Still At Lunch here earlier this month and has since been placed over 9f on the Flat at Hamilton. Woodcraft has been disappointing for Don McCain, but has place claims.

Verdict

Dream Castle won this corresponding event a year ago, so the fact that he returns from a 342-day absence does not seem such a negative. Barry Potts has probably had this race in mind for some time, but Dream Castle is 14 now and must be vulnerable to a member of the younger brigade such as BOLTON HALL, who made a respectable start to his hurdling career when third to Coronado's Gold at Market Rasen. He is essentially a miler on the level, but looks to have the stamina to win at this level over jumps and he gets a chunk of weight from Storm Prospect. Rossin Gold is well in on old form under Ryan Mania's claim, but he's not the force of old.

Verdict

Franc Villez had an engagement here on Tuesday, so much depends on the success, or otherwise, of that venture. However, this trip is on the sharp side and COMMEMORATION DAY can make a bold bid to enhance his trainer's grand record here. He makes his first visit to this venue on his 50th career start but has raced at a variety of venues, including several on the continent. This summer's chase wins at Stratford and Towcester show him to be in good heart and he can edge out Premier Dane who has not quite reproduced his good hurdles form on the switch to fences, but recently gained a confidence-boosting win over course and distance.

Lofty Leader has won three times here (from 14 visits) and has fallen to a handy mark, but he has not shown any worthwhile form for a few months and a more solid proposition is THUNDER HAWK - a 5-length second to Franc Villez here a fortnight ago. He won a point to point at Hexham before following up in a regulation chase there. Then it was on to this venue where he did nothing wrong in finishing third of 13 to the useful Apollo Creed. Verdict

Both Strobe and Norminster are fitted with first-time blinkers and the former, who gained a brace of staying wins on the Flat last September, is possibly the most likely to stage a form revival, but preference is for OH YAH DANCER who seemed to relish the decent ground on his handicap debut here on July 3. The least exposed in the line-up that day, he overcame greenness to win in the style of an improving type with his rivals strung out behind him. Timetwogo must concede a stone, but had seven lengths to spare over Dasher Reilly in a 3m 2f maiden chase at Southwell last time. That followed a near miss against Barney's Mate at Worcester.
