Som Tala stays longer than the mother in law and was running on strongly when a close-up fifth in the Ascot Stakes at last month's royal meeting. He ought to be in the shake-up of this 2m5f contest but he isn't the easiest to win with and could prove vulnerable under top-weight. Jim Goldie holds a couple of aces with the tough-as-teak mare La Vecchia Scuola and MUDAWIN. Ryan Moore is an eye-catching booking for the latter, who shaped well on his reappearance in the Northumberland Plate and is now just 1lb higher compared to when landing the 2006 Ebor at York. Daylami Dreams also merits respect.

There aren't many Pattern-class juvenile races that Aidan O'Brien has yet to taste success in but this Group 2 contest has so far eluded the Ballydoyle maestro. Westphalia, runner-up to subsequent Phoenix Stakes third Bushranger at The Curragh last time, is bound to make a bold bid for the Irish handler. However, it's worth siding with ORIZABA, who missed the break in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot but stayed on well at the business end, shaping as though this step up to 7f would suit. Swinging Sixties got the job done well at Windsor last time but that wasn't a particularly competitive event and Michael Jarvis' charge has been thumped with a 9lb rise. As such, he's worth opposing. Sir Michael Stoute has landed this handicap three times during the last decade so Royal Ascot winner Colony is accorded plenty of respect but GOODWOOD STARLIGHT is taken to emerge as a topical winner. John Dunlop's charge is on a steep upward curve, is already a dual winner at this track, and shaped as though the step up to 1m4f would be ideal when scoring at Ascot last time.

The form of the two maidens in which Lee Miller was placed before opening her account at Pontefract have worked out well and she has to be respected given that she hails from the Luca Cumani yard and has a feather weight. However, it's well worth giving another chance to GHAIDAA, who was turned over when a short price for a Listed event at Newbury but was probably unsuited by the easy surface. Much better is expected here. Perfect Star would be a danger to all if fit for this reappearance but she faces no easy task under top-weight, while Asfurah's Dream will need to step up on her C&D maiden win.

An interesting fillies' maiden and while it has failed to produce future stars in recent years, there are plenty in this 16-strong line-up with big-race entries. Barry Hills landed this in 2002 and 2003 and fields EQUININE and Intense. The latter is bred for middle-distances whereas Equinine is by the speedy Namid and she is the tentative selection. The betting will be informative with regard to the prospects of the likes of Seradim and Tiger Eye, not to mention Dane's World. The latter's stablemate Victoria Sponge shaped well on her introduction at Windsor, as did Slant at Newbury, and they are feared most.

A tricky finale. That said, The Queen's FIRESTREAK could be the one, having chased home the potentially smart Main Aim at Sandown last time. Richard Hannon's charge faces nothing of that calibre today, although, if on song, Main Aim's stablemate Flawed Genius would be a huge threat. However, he needs to bounce back from a disappointing display at Newmarket. We'll Come was far from disgraced when chasing home Welsh Emperor in a conditions race at Haydock latest and rates a live danger.
