The Twisler improved from claiming a Salisbury handicap off 79 to winning Goodwood's March Stakes, but this represents an altogether different test and a strong home team is spearheaded by VAZIRABAD. Alain De Royer-Dupre's gelding has made great strides himself and accounted for Big Blue, Pilansberg and Gaius Ceasar in the Prix De Lutece in the style of a most progressive young stayer.
Christophe Soumillon is an interesting booking for German raider STAR SYSTEM, who scored here when last seen in May and is backed in the hope that he isn't too ring-rusty. Yume was sixth as favourite that day and has hit the crossbar here most recently. Sea Front suffered a mishap in the Prix du Pin but struck at Listed level at Chantilly back in the spring.
Martlet is rapidly developing into a class act and was too strong for her Galtres Stakes rivals at York's Ebor meeting. She is expected to step forward again, but Prix Minerve winner CANDARLIYA took her form to a new level when getting closest to the imperious Treve in the Prix Vermeille and she meets nothing even remotely of that calibre here. With very little considered outstanding among the remainder, Irish filly Ballybacka Queen could pick up some black type.
CIRRUS DES AIGLES may have blotted his copybook in the Irish Champion Stakes, but he has won this race three times in the past and it would have been four if he hadn't been demoted 12 months ago when Fractional was the chief beneficiary. He is backed to rediscover his zest back at a track on which he has graced the winner's enclosure no less than 13 times. Air Pilot had an unfortunate experience in Germany after winning at the Curragh but has been given plenty of time to get over that, and French Navy returns from an even longer break having last been seen winning the Earl Of Sefton in April.
SYLVINE AL MAURY saw off Bint Jakkarta by four lengths, with Majida and Yathrib third and fourth respectively, in a Group Three at La Teste in August and there is no apparent reason why she won't confirm that superiority.
Last year's 1000 Guineas heroine MISS FRANCE made a pleasing belated debut when just failing to reel in Sonnerie in the Prix de la Cochere and there is still time for the decision to keep her in training at four to be vindicated. Akatea ran a blinder to take second in the Prix du Moulin and is an obvious threat if managing to repeat the level of that performance. Johnny Barnes bounced right back to his best at Deauville but would prefer it softer.
HELIS stepped up on his promising debut performance when scoring readily at Vichy and, with further improvement on the cards, he is fancied to complete the double. Birch Cove won well at Lyon-Parilly and warrants plenty of respect under Mickael Barzalona, while Zip Code and Koskoroba add further spice to the race.
It could pay to side with SNAAD in what looks a fiercely competitive handicap. Stephane Pasquier's mount has been hammering on the door recently and he looks sure to be in the thick of things again. Tantris disappointed last time but has every chance if recapturing the form of his Saint-Cloud win before that, while Always Ready and Wahib make up the shortlist.
