PEARLY POLL belied odds of 50/1 when finishing runner-up to a potentially useful filly over this C&D and the form has already been boosted with victories for the third and fourth. She can go one better at the expense of Makai whose future lies in handicaps, although he did show a liking for rain-softened ground to take fourth at the last meeting here. Dolly Brown shaped with some promise on her Redcar debut and could be best of the rest.
Namu has had plenty of opportunites and is beginning to frustrate but she sets the standard and is an obvious contender. She has done her racing on a sound surface, though, so it may pay to take a chance on HAIFA who was blocked for a run in a soft ground Newcastle maiden and did remarkably well to fill third spot. With better luck, compensation awaits, however, Cativo Cavallino went into a few notebooks when a staying-on sixth at Bath and merits plenty of thought as well.
The reliable Island Prince has been given some help from the assessor, whereas the speedy Don't Tell Sue could do with dropping a few pounds. Recent evidence suggests a race of this nature is within Lipizza's compass, although the drop from 7f isn't ideal. Diane's Choice earned top-weight with a commendable third at Bath but preference is for fellow nursery debutant YOUNG BERTIE, who is a half-brother to high-class German soft-ground performer Lucky Strike, so the recent rain could see him in a better light.
Derby entries for newcomers Battalion, Ptolemac Cosmology and REUNITE suggest that all three have been showing something positive at home. As a half-sister to Prix du Jockey-Club hero Anabaa Blue, the latter in particular catches the eye on pedigree and, with Dettori taking the leg up, she gets the nod. Stablemate Rebellion has shown a fair level of form in his two outings and looks best of the raced brigade.
In contrast to the previous event, Frankie Dettori has opted for the racecourse experience of ECONOMIC who made a satisfactory start to his career, finishing just one place behind Monday's impressive Group 3 winner Frost Giant. This presents him with an ideal opportunity to get off the mark because the well-bred Stoute representative Karlani has shown precious little and 1.4 million dollar purchase Majority Vote, a stablemate to the selection, appeals more for forecast backers.
The Godolphin team have enjoyed a prolific autumn and SUBPOENA can end what could be a successful day for the Dubai outfit by landing this contest. A winner for Michael Jarvis last term, the Diktat colt has taken a while to hit his straps this time in but split Elliots World and Rob Roy at Doncaster and this is easier. Chrysander will struggle to give weight to the selection but showed a welcome return to form last time and is the only possible danger.
After a disappointing start to the season, Henry Candy finally has his string firing on all cylinders and Gambling Spirit looked a useful prospect when winning at Lingfield. However, the wet conditions sway the vote towards LITTLE BOB who sluiced through the Ayr mud to win from out of the handicap at the weekend and actually drops 1lb. African Sahara has been punished for a quickfire brace but still enters the equation, as does Daring Affair, who will also relish the ground.
Pride of Kinloch's strike-rate leaves a lot to be desired but she wasn't far away at Catterick and the extra furlong may be just what she needs. Amorist has let down favourite backers on each of his last three outings and, while he will reward punters faith before too long, he will struggle to gain revenge on his Brighton conqueror MADEMOISELLE. Barry Hills' filly was value for more than the official half-length winning margin that day and is clearly on an upward curve now that the ground has turned soft.
