FORT BASTION took a big step forward when second in the Chesham last month and sets a clear form standard for the remainder to aim at this afternoon. Richard Hannon's colt has already shown himself to be versatile ground-wise and with further improvement expected over this trip, he is a confident choice. Pearl Mix relished the step up to this trip when hacking up at Kempton on her second start and with Ralph Beckett recently amongst the winners, he looks the main danger to the selection. Red Duke was backed as if defeat was out of the question when scoring at Redcar last month and, along with Sir Glanton, who now steps up in trip, completes the shortlist.
Fort Bastion was clear of the third when attempting to give weight to Maybe in the Chesham, and is a clear form pick on that effort. Pearl Mix and Ghostwriting are untried on turf but both are interesting, especially the former who looked a top prospect when routing the opposition at Kempton.

A mouth-watering renewal of the Bunbury Cup for punters to sink their teeth into and STRIKING SPIRIT looks primed to strike for Tim Easterby. The capable five-year-old struggled to impact in handicaps last year after going up in the weights for his Wokingham second, however, he seems to have benefitted from a recent switch of stable and ran a superb race on unfavourable territory when third in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. The selection is 3lb higher now but his low draw may be of benefit to Seb Sanders and a big run appears on the cards. Red Gulch has improved under the guidance of Ed Walker, former assistant to Luca Cumani, this year and, along with Mont Agel, who faced an impossible task from a poor draw in the Royal Hunt Cup last time, look the main dangers. The booking of Olivier Peslier aboard Docofthebay catches the eye and Dandy Nicholls' reliable gelding is another to consider.
King of Jazz is one of only a handful of 3-y-os to have got a run in this valuable handicap in the last few years, and he gets the nod with more improvement on the cards. Dangers are aplenty, however, with Manassas and Striking Spirit, first and third in the Buckingham Palace, and Red Gulch all making lots of appeal.

There was uncertainty surrounding DELEGATOR's effectiveness over sprint distances prior to his run in the Duke Of York stakes in May but the classy Godolphin charge, who had found only Sea The Stars too strong when second in the 2,000 Guineas as a three-year-old, dispelled those doubts with a winning performance that oozed class. The selection skipped Royal Ascot due to the slow conditions but granted faster ground here, should take the world of beating. Bated Breath appears to be dependent on fast ground and it is therefore easy to forgive Roger Charlton's colt his latest effort when a disappointing fifth in the Golden Jubilee Stakes on soft. Monsieur Chevalier bounced back to form when second in that same race and warrants consideration, while Australian raider Star Witness looks a hardy sort and bounced back from a narrow defeat in the King's Stand when third behind the last-named four days later. Danny O'Brien hasn't brought him over to Suffolk merely to clock up the miles and a big run looks on the cards.
Delegator has a chance here to prove himself the leading sprinter he's always promised to be, but at around twice the price Star Witness is taken to gain compensation for his narrow defeats at Royal Ascot. War Artist rates a lively outsider back at 6f.

Las Verglas Star has been raised 8lb for a straightforward success at Haydock last time and remains open to further progress over this distance. Of those stepping up from 7f, Anoint, outpaced on his handicap bow at Sandown last time, appeals most.

A market move for the Cheveley Park-owned debutant Ladyship would be noteworthy but without such knowledge LADY JAMEELA is preferred. Mick Channon has his string in fine order at present and there were plenty of positives to take from the selection's debut third at Newbury when she looked as if she would come on appreciably for the outing. Kune Kune was fourth in the same race but may be seen to best effect when stepped up to 7f later into the season. Midas Medusa has been holding her form well lately but didn't seem to progress much beyond her Leicester second when upped to this trip at Bath last time and may have to settle for a supporting role today.
Those with experience look beatable, the pick of them being Lady Jameela, and this could well go to a newcomer, the regally-bred pair Desert Gazelle and Ladyship making the most appeal.

There was much to like about OVERPOWERED's victory in a Ripon maiden last month when swerving right exiting the stalls and having to race wide throughout, yet still prevailing with what appeared to be a little up his sleeve. Es Que Love found the company too hot when ninth in the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes last time but looks well handicapped if able to recapture his earlier form, as he was previously second to the smart Frederick Engels in a small-field conditions race at Musselburgh. Last time out winners Democretes and Ladykin appeal most of the remainder, although very few can be ruled out in what appears a typical nursery minefield.
Falls of Lora had a valid excuse at Royal Ascot but won't find giving plenty of weight to Ladykin and Democretes an easy task. Both will appreciate the step up in trip.

Spifer was putting in his best work in the closing stages when second over 1m2f at Kempton last time and the step up in trip should unlock further improvement in Luca Cumani's Motivator colt. However, this race looks significantly tougher and it might be worth siding with TANFEETH, who found 0-105 company a little beyond him when fourth at Epsom last time, but should appreciate the drop into 0-90 company now upped in trip this afternoon. Handicap debutant Crassula has place possibilities while, of the older contingent, Swindler would be interesting if subjected to market support on his return from a lengthy absence.
This is the time of year when 3-y-os start to dominate all-aged middle-distance handicaps and the likelihood is that Spifer, Ittirad and Tanfeeth will all be there at the finish. Spifer did remarkably well to finish second at Kempton last time and gets the vote with the promise of significant improvement over this longer trip.
