Richard Fahey has enjoyed a fine year with his string and his Rainbow Bay looks capable of winning races of this nature. However, he looks to be best at 6f and the conditions may not be ideal here. KANGARUZ has finished runner-up on both outings to date but may now be able to go one better. It looked last time as though the minimum trip on an easy track would bring out the best in him and he gets those conditions today. Walnut Grove is a potential improver for the each-way punter.
Many of these often go well without getting their head in front, such as Joshua's Gold and Kalani Star and both of them again look booked to run fair races but may just find a couple too good off current handicap marks. Old timer Tony Tie must have a chance as he is competing at the lowest level he has ever done and runs off a career low mark. GRANDE TERRE is dropped in class also and has gone well fresh previously. She returns from a short break here and could easily make a winning return to action.
Patavium is likely to prove a popular selection and he has to be given a chance. Too much use was made of him last time over a mile when he weakened out of the race, today's drop in trip should prove more suitable. Startori and Sparkbridge have shown a degree of ability and should win races but maybe not today. THE OSTEOPATH has had a few chances now but this is an easier assignment than when running creditably last time and it could be his turn to get his head in front.
SPIRIT OF FRANCE finished behind Tagula Sunrise earlier in the summer but could turn that form around on much better terms with his useful 7lb claimer taking more weight off his back. He is consistent enough in this grade and is versatile as regards to the ground. The main worry with him is that the trip may stretch his stamina. Proven at the trip is Little Miss Gracie and she does have claims but may be a little high in the handicap at present.
Sir Mark Prescott has a typically progressive sort in Oblique and he looks sure to acquit herself well in this competitive event. However, she is taking on older horses for the first time and it is taking a chance if backing her to beat these proven rivals. Trance has dropped back down the handicap and hinted at a return to form on his most recent outing, he is expected to reward each-way support at the least. The selection though is BUCKS who is unlucky not to have got off the mark for the season as yet after being slightly unlucky on his first two outings. Last time he was well beaten in midfield but that came in a race that is working out well.
Spunger ran well at Beverley last time out and a repeat of that form could get her involved in this whilst the Mick Channon trained Jaassey also has claims. He showed improved form when tried on top of the ground and has similar conditions again here. The improver in the field looks to be IRIDESCENCE however as this 1m trip is likely to show her in a better light than when she was previously seen over 6f. She has shown ability in her three races to date and looks to have been given a good opportunity to get her first win.
Luca Cumani's ZALIMAR got her first career victory when landing a similar race to this in fine style on her most recent start. She looked well capable of following up and should defy a 5lb higher mark after that win. Incroyable looked one to follow earlier in the year but hasn't progressed quite as expected and may find it difficult to give weight all round.
