PRESENT VIEW was lumbered with a 7lb rise for a Market Rasen success when last sighted at Bangor, but gave an excellent account when conceding weight to the winner there and may not have finished improving just yet on what is only his fourth chase start. Ballinvarrig is another individual with plenty of scope and a 5lb rise for his Ascot success may prove lenient, while Mic's Delight's recent third at Wincanton is working out well with two subsequent winners coming out of the race. Sunny Ledgend may be a lively outsider now he drops to a far more realistic level.

Paul Nicholls is 3-5 in recent renewals and holds a strong hand with his ex-French duo. Alcala makes more appeal than Solar Impulse, and any market support would be considered significant on his British bow, but preference is for Harry Fry's ACTIVIAL, who sets a good standard on his debut second behind the very useful Calipto and is taken to shrug off an 85-day absence. Commissioned made an encouraging start over timber at Cheltenham in December, although the first-time blinkers are disconcerting, while Goodwood Mirage has jumped poorly in his two starts over timber. This is a tough first assignment over hurdles for Agreement, but Duroble Man had excuses last time and remains of interest on his C&D victory in October.

Commissioned progressed quickly on the level for Mark Johnston and may do likewise in this sphere, but French bumper winners Activial and Alcala both shaped with lots of promise when runner-up on their respective hurdling debuts, the former marginally preferred to land the spoils.

Balder Succes is 3-5 over fences and demonstrated his slick jumping with a smooth success in Grade 2 company at Warwick. The step up in trip won't prove an inconvenience, but FOX APPEAL made a deep impression when routing a solid yardstick by 10-lengths at Ascot in December, and he wasn't disgraced when conceding a penalty at Doncaster subsequently. Emma Lavelle's charge is taken to get back to winning ways now returned to this distance. Dark Lover needs to jump better in first-time cheekpieces, while the quirky Loose Chips isn't the most reliable despite being 3-4 under both codes here, so the unexposed God's Own might prove best of the remainder.

C&D winner Amore Alato could be dangerous from the front but most eyes will be on Paul Nicholls' IRVING (nap), who is clear second-favourite for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle on most betting lists after landing a Grade 2 novices' contest over this trip on soft ground at Ascot in December. He was ridden with plenty of confidence by Nick Scholfield that day and demonstrated a smart turn of foot to bound clear on the run-in once ex-Godolphin representative Prince Siegfried had departed at the last (was held). Classy Flat performer First Mohican probably has better to offer in this sphere after making a winning hurdling debut at Doncaster and represents a yard that won this race in 2012 with Grumeti, while Cup Final is entitled to improve on his Taunton second behind the selection in November. He's 7lb better off at the weights today and may narrow the four-length gap that separated the pair that day if he's over the problems which have kept him off the track since (returned with a nasty cut on his hind leg).

Bury Parade put his Exeter flop behind him (refused to race) when seeing off stablemate Grandioso at Ascot and, together with Jump City, they give Paul Nicholls an enviable hand. Nevertheless, the trainer to follow in this event is usually Philip Hobbs, and his Grade 1 winner PLANET OF SOUND could remain well treated after inflicting a two-length defeat on Jump City over C&D on his comeback. Conditions will suit Ardkilly Witness and he is open to plenty of improvement at this discipline. Baile Anrai, Standing Ovation and Bless The Wings also warrant respect in a competitive renewal, for all it is one that lacks the quality of past years.
