EDMUND KEAN took another step forward when beating a useful yardstick in The Romford Pele at Ludlow recently, and with several entries at the Cheltenham Festival in mind, he looks capable of continuing his progression with victory here. This is by no means a walkover though with Bucking The Trend beating a pair of subsequent winners on his last start, and, Pinerolo hacking up at Catterick ahead of a future winner in fourth.

Ubaltique has hit a fine bit of form recently and looks a live contender in spite of an 8lb rise in the weights, but now he shoulders top-weight, he may prove vulnerable to a better handicapped rival. Figaro must be considered a prime candidate to assume that role but the ground is likely to be more testing than he has seen so far, so perhaps it is worth taking a chance on DEEPSAND who has excuses for his last run but was pitched into Grade 3 company off a 5lb higher mark last year and can bounce back here.

Watch out for: Ubaltique (1)

Plenty to consider but the really interesting one could be Angelot du Berlais who ran in some warm 4-y-o contests over hurdles last term, will appreciate conditions, and may have more to offer in this sphere on just his fifth run. There's more to come from Musselburgh winner Figaro who was useful on the Flat, while the thriving Ubaltique and Kudu Country are just a couple of others to note.

Venetia Williams bids for more big race success courtesy of Relax who, accounting for his rider's claim, is only 2lb higher than when scoring at Sandown earlier in the month. He warrants respect, as does the progressive Sun Cloud, who remains open to further improvement at this test despite a 12lb rise for his Catterick victory. Our Island and Smoking Aces ought to make a bold bid off their attractive marks, but SEVEN WOODS has plied his trade creditably over inadequate trips this campaign and his latest effort over timber is easily excused. Tom George's charge appears well treated judged on his earlier novice form. Question marks regarding the ground linger over Royale Knight, while Safran De Cotte isn't guaranteed to see out the trip, although the steadily progressive Financial Climate holds solid credentials for the minor honours.

PANAMA PETRUS travelled well through his race when opening his hurdles account at Market Rasen last time and although his jumping lacked fluency at times, he Is entitled to improve for the experience and defy a penalty to land a double. Hat-trick seeker Getabuzz is 2-2 since the blinkers went on and is unlikely to be far away, while the drop back from 3m could elicit some improvement from Ivy Gate, who makes most appeal of the remainder.

Dark Dune has claims if bouncing back from a wayward effort at Catterick last time (pulled-up) and has claims on his earlier form at that same venue and also at Carlisle. Lyric Street also makes some appeal based on his debut third at Doncaster, but the form standard set looks surmountable, and preferred ahead of both is thus RIDE THE RANGE, who has demonstrated ability in bumpers and looks to have found a decent opening now debuting over timber.

SUSTAINABILITY returned from 274 days off the track to finish second at Taunton last month, and despite the distance between him and the winner, it looked the perfect sighter for his assault on this contest. Sharney Sike and Be My Deputy profited from the downfall of the two leaders on their last start at Wetherby but can finish on the premises again, while Dancing Art reportedly underwent a wind operation in the summer and may still have more to come. Fentara will be suited by these conditions and can run a big race while Gansey is just 1lb higher than when he won this in 2011.

Watch out for: Fentara (3)

A tricky handicap to assess and it may just be worth siding with Sustainability, who was going the right way over fences this time last term, and with a recent spin over hurdles likely to have sharpened him up he could just be the answer with his yard continuing in fine fettle.
