Quite a competitive opener but FLIPANDO could be very well in off a mark of 91 as he was performing with credit off 100 at this time last year. He might have won on his penultimate run at Newcastle with a clear run but can record his first success of the season here. Signor Peltro won over course and distance last month and will not mind any give in the ground but he does need things to drop just right. The other Candy runner, Aye Aye Digby, is of some interest as he is 2lb better off with King's Bastion on their Newbury running last month.

Anmar made a very encouraging start to his career when landing a Sandown maiden and is definitely deserving of utmost respect despite stepping up in class. However, Richard Hannon is a force to be reckoned with in all two-year-old races and he saddles SOHCAHTOA and Measurement. Only half a length separated them in a Listed contest at Salisbury but preference is for the former who has already proved his liking for this track with two wins here over 7f.

Crimson Fern has been in fantastic form this season but has something to find on official ratings. Asset looks particularly well treated as he would be much worse off if this was a handicap, but SONNY RED gets a tentative vote. He won a Listed race here as a juvenile and Richard Hannon won a Listed sprint at Doncaster earlier in the week with Galeota. Lesson In Humility has the form to figure but may prefer top of the ground.

Fort Churchill won an amateur riders' race here last month and is unpenalised for that success but this looks a bit tougher. John Dunlop has done well at Goodwood over the years and his Star Of Gibraltar appreciated the step up to this trip when winning at Salisbury on good to soft last month. She won't mind give in the ground and should go well but the fly in the ointment is Godolphin's FORTUNE CITY who hacked up in a soft-ground Lingfield maiden last week and does not appear to be overly burdened by the handicapper for that success.

CONTRETEMPS made a promising start in what looked a decent maiden at Newmarket last month and with considerable improvement likely he will be hard to beat in this contest. Ed Dunlop's Aqwaal stepped up on his debut effort to finish third in a Lingfield maiden and should be capable of making the frame once more. Silver Print looks sure to appreciate the step up to a mile after staying on at the death in two runs over 7f but he might do better when handicapped.

Pennyspider won easily at Bath and could be capable of another bold bid on her preferred easy ground despite an 8lb hike in the weights, while Cheshire Rose is respected on the form of her victory at Ayr a couple of outings ago. It could pay to take a chance on handicap debutante COMPTON ROSE who showed plenty of dash in her maidens and looks the type to do better now tackling handicap company.

Ace Of Hearts won a handicap over course and distance last season and deserves to land a decent prize this term after some solid efforts. However, he has paid for his consistency with his handicap mark and looks vulnerable again. Upton Grey has disappointed on his last two outings but is likely to be capable of better and could be in the mix. ORCHARD SUPREME won here in May and although he has turned in a few below-par efforts since he might just pop up at a price.
