In what looks almost certain to be a tactical match, ALAIVAN is taken to score. Edward O'Grady's charge won a Listed hurdle at Naas with the minimum of fuss last time and as he was a smarter operator on the Flat than Carlito Brigante, he could get the better of the battle if it turns into a sprint. Carlito Brigante was never in contention at Cheltenham last time but the drop to this trip may help.
There isn't much to choose between Alaivan and Carlito Brigante when both are on song, but the latter is arguably the speedier of the pair and that can prove decisive in what is sure to be a tactical affair.

JOHNNY McGEENEY got close to the smart Tornedo Shay on his hurdling debut and though he proved costly to follow at Cork subsequently, he looks to have been found an ideal opening here. Estrela Brage was no slouch on the level but will need to show a lot more than he did at Leopardstown, while Rough Times went close at Galway before flopping over C&D latest and he may be better suited to a sounder surface.
Johnny McGeeny didn't convince with his response to pressure when third at Cork last time but this looks a much weaker race, in spite of the maximum field size, and he should prove up to the task. Flat recruit God's County could be the main threat, whilst Anderson Mcauley looks a solid place bet, having chased home a subsequent winner when third at Down Royal.

Stay found Listed company too hot over the minimum trip last time but did get off the mark over this distance at Tramore, while Ardglen scorched to two handicap wins around Christmas time but is now 16lb higher than for the first of those successes. Turner Brown has been in fine form of late but may prefer a shorter trip, so preference is for MASKED PHANTOM, who failed over 2m last time but his effort when second at Cork prior to that stands him in good stead here.
Last-time-out winners Turner Brown and Ardglen both deserve to be high on the shortlist, but the chances are that neither of them will represent much in the way of value, so a chance is taken on Catleen instead, who travelled strongly through the race when second to the up-and-coming Trendelenburg on her most recent start over timber.

ARCTIC MICK waltzed to a 10-length victory over fences at Navan and as he returns to hurdling off a 13lb lower mark, he has to be accorded the utmost respect. Media Baron won well enough at Limerick last time but has a 7lb rise to contend with, while Andrea's Answer has been raised 2lb for her gallant third at Cork last time. Gordon Elliott has opted for blinkers for Chino Valdes and if they have the desired effect he could go close.
The only negative surrounding the chance of Arctic Mick is that he's turned out quickly after winning in bad ground at Navan, but he has so much in hand of this basement mark judged on his much-improved chase form that he has to be the selection. Chino Valdes and Clara More can chase him home.

TIME ELECTRIC went close on his chasing debut at Clonmel, finding only Quito De La Roque too good, and though he toiled behind Bob Lingo here last time, the third that day has gone on to frank the form. Killultagh Queen looked booked for second when unseating at Cork last time and is well worth a second glance, while stablemate For The Staff is likely to strip fitter for his modest fifth at Thurles. Mr Nosie, off the track since the 2006 Cheltenham Festival, was a classy sort in his prime but has plenty of questions to answer now.
Time Electric looked a winner waiting to happen when second to Quito de La Roque on his fencing debut (pair well clear) and should have little difficulty in disposing of these rivals. The best of the rest are the Willie Mullins-trained pair of Killultagh Queen and For The Staff.

Though beaten a fair way behind Sam Adams over C&D last time, Barry Murphy's charge looks to have been leniently treated if that form can be taken literally and he could strike. Wicklow Lad went close at Naas last time but a 5lb rise for that looks harsh, while Barneys Honour chased home Turner Brown at Punchestown and has a chance if transferring that hurdling form to fences.
This is a trappy affair but it could be worth taking a chance on Mask of Darkness, who is making his handicap debut over fences and has long since appealed as the type to do well in this sphere. Rickardstown bounced back to form last time and a reproduction of that should see him thereabouts, whilst Barneys Honour is proving a reliable sort.

Ask Me Sister went down by just a neck at Thurles last time and merits respect, while newcomers Eirland and Articular could both prove to be above average in time. However, all three will have to go some to stop TUSA EIRE making it second time lucky. Backers of Willie Mullins' gelding got their fingers burnt when he went down by a neck at Naas but they could recoup some of those losses as he's likely to benefit from that experience.
It's not difficult to make a case for plenty in this bumper but one who could represent a bit of value is Princess Gaia, so she's selected ahead of Tusa Eire and Ask Me Sister.
