WELL REWARDED has shown up well in novice company and the combination of this drop in trip and the fitting of first-time cheekpieces entitles him to improve on his handicap debut. His trainer has a 29 per cent strike-rate with her jumpers here in the last five years so any market support would be worth heeding. Ink Master looks on a workable mark now moving into handicaps while Special Wells, raised 6lb for his handicap debut victory at Wetherby, is expected to give another good account.

SPECIAL WELLS showed much improved form when narrowly getting the better of a subsequent winner at Wetherby on Boxing Day (16.5f) and he should still have plenty more to offer despite a 6 lb rise, particularly now sent back over further. Istimraar is really getting to grips with hurdling and rates a big danger, whilst Ink Master will improve stepping up in trip on handicap debut.

Formal Bid was outclassed on his last run at Grade 2 level and Mister Spingsprong, a fair hurdler, lacks experience on his chasing bow, so THREE KINGDOMS and Solar Impulse are the ones to focus on. The latter bounced back from a disappointing Cheltenham performance by chasing home Josses Hill over C&D and will go close if building on that effort, but the John Ferguson-trained selection sets the standard on his Kempton second to Vibrato Valtat over Christmas and is expected to come out on top.

Upepito has been handed a 7lb rise for scoring over 2m at Warwick and should go well, likewise fellow last-time-out winner Runswick Royal, who struck in novice company at Newcastle and now makes his handicap bow in this sphere. Of more interest than both, however, is OFF THE GROUND, who is fitted with a first-time visor and is expected to build on his latest Wetherby second now dropped 3lb. Royal Regatta was the subject of support at Newbury last time and is another worth monitoring in the betting.

The eye is immediately drawn to the two Irish raiders who clashed at Leopardstown over Christmas. A strong case can be made for Analifet as she was travelling well before coming down two out on that occasion and represents the formidable trainer/jockey combination that took this prize with Annie Power last year. However, PRINCESS LEYA was still boxing on for second before weakening over the stiffer 2m4f trip and will possibly fare better now dropped back to an extended two miles. The domestic challenge appears to be headed by improving juveniles Nyanza and Intense Tango, while Pass The Time holds strong each-way claims as a C&D winner.

BLAKLION was beaten for just the second time under Rules in the Challow Hurdle at Newbury. The suspicion is that the 2m5f trip would have played to his rivals' strengths on that occasion and the return to three miles can see him bounce back to winning ways. The main danger appears to be Present View, who ran a cracker in the Paddy Power at Cheltenham, and proved himself to be versatile with an excellent run over timber on his reappearance. Zeroeshadesofgrey is the most attractive alternative if Present View takes up his first preference as he loves it at this track and shouldn't be written off after his last effort at Prestbury Park.

BLAKLION is sure to be suited by the return to 3m and can notch a third Grade 2 success of the campaign. Easter Day is entitled to strip sharper for his comeback run in a graduation chase at Newbury and boasts sound claims judged on his Ascot success in December 2013. Paul Nicholls' charge accounted for the subsequent RSA winner that day and could have a lot up his sleeve off a mark of 142. Medermit finished second to Sam Winner at Aintree and is the class horse in the race, but his stable companion GODSMEJUDGE won the Scottish Grand National in 2013 and could be the one to side with. Second in the Ayr marathon last season, he made the frame again in the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown when last seen, and will take some reeling in if returning on song. If In Doubt takes to the handicap ranks over fences for the first time and the Catterick scorer brings some useful form to the table. Grandads Horse and course specialist Night In Milan are closely matched and both warrant close consideration too.
